This account is the official X account for the I'ts Time campaign.

Violence against women and girls in Scotland is a public emergency.

Nearly 200 women have been killed by men in Scotland in 16 years. Already 7 have been killed this year. Tens of thousands of domestic abuse annually, and that is only a fraction of what actually happens. Most abuse never reaches the police. Home is often the most dangerous place a woman can be.

@Sunday_Post put faces to those names in 2025. The response to it was overwhelming, survivors, families, politicians, employers, sportspeople, musicians, writers and campaigners all said the same thing. Enough.

It’s Time exists to turn that moment into lasting change.

VAWG is not inevitable. It is learned, tolerated and excused. The campaign exists to make misogyny as socially unacceptable as drink-driving. It will do this through a workplace charter, emergency support for women fleeing danger, pressure on government and public services, and a whole-of-society effort that includes men.

This account is here to keep the facts visible, amplify survivors and partners, and refuse to let the issue drop off the agenda.

#ItsTime Scotland can be a country where women and girls live free from fear.

This morning all MSPs received an email from the Scottish Police Federation, representing some 16,500 officers, calling for a pause in the new police conduct regulations.

The Federation raises serious concerns about fairness, different disciplinary arrangements depending on endent chairs for all gross misconduct hearings, unequal access to funded legal representation and the devastating consequences for officers and their families when the disciplinary process goes wrong.

Nobody is arguing that officers guilty of serious misconduct should escape accountability. Quite the opposite.

But accountability must be accompanied by fairness. And there are serious questions about whether these regulations will deliver that.

This is precisely why I have lodged motions to annul the regulations. We need to hear the evidence, properly scrutinise what is being proposed and make sure we get this right before the regulations come into force.

'"We need a register of stalkers now to stop attacks like the one on my daughter happening again". Former stalking victims say a public register would help reduce serious harm from serial stalkers. Last year, police recorded over 135,000 stalking offences in England and Wales.'

'Long-time campaigner Laura Richards @laurarichards99, founder of Paladin, the National Stalking Advocacy Service, stressed that any new register must be enshrined in law. She believes that police forces must be compelled to reveal any history of stalking or domestic abuse. She is calling for serial stalkers and domestic abusers to be included on the Violent and Sexual Offenders Register.

And she wants a national database shared by all 43 police forces in England and Wales, and managed via the Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements. The proposal has the backing of a petition signed by over 300,000 people.'

“Women are being killed in Scotland and I fear we are getting used to it…..strong words from Karyn McCluskey CEO of Community Justice Scotland telling it like it is. Karyn never sugar coats reality. She has seen the human cost of the increasing violence that means the most dangerous place in Scotland is her own home and thousands of children are living in terror. This is why we launched It’s Time…the carnage must end now!”

Mr Hogg said: "We are not asking for sympathy. We are asking for action, answers and accountability.

"How many more women have to lose their lives? How many more families have to be destroyed before enough really is enough?
Stacey was our sister, our daughter and a mum. She was funny, loud, caring and full of life.

"She deserved to be here, and her children deserved to have her here.

"We cannot change what happened to Stacey, but we can speak up and demand that something changes for other women and families."

I feel quite emotional reading this.
It came years too late but I pay my respects to RCEW CEO Ciara Bergman and the Board of Trustees who I know will have pored over this. Thank you.
Women victim-survivors of sexual & domestic violence & abuse deserve women only spaces. Finally.
A clear statement from @RapeCrisisEandW

- Every adult and child who has experienced sexual violence deserves access to to support
- The Rape Crisis National Service Standards recognise the benefit of women only services and spaces
- RCEW Centres MUST provide women-only spaces es not mean that they cannot *also* provide services (or referral) for male survivors including trans-identifying men.

"One mother, Michelle, said the perceived contradiction at the heart of the system became impossible to ignore after her former partner secured ongoing contact with their children following his release from prison.

Despite obtaining a non-harassment order, she said she had to maintain contact arrangements that enabled him to remain involved in the family’s life.

“I’ve got a non-harassment order against him, but he has the legal right to keep harassing me? How can that be right?” she said.

Michelle said the impact on her children was particularly painful because she believed they were repeatedly exposed to manipulation during visits.

She said: “Having to watch your kids being manipulated into being part of the abuse is like the court is ordering me to put my children over a fence where there is a dog that bites them, and the courts are telling me to keep putting them over the fence, again and again.”
Scotland’s family courts face growing calls to stop treating children as bystanders in domestic abuse cases. It comes amid warnings child contact orders are leaving mothers and children trapped in fear long after abusive relationships have ended. eu1.hubs.ly/H0zmsS80

"Mary Howden, of the Women’s Rights Network Scotland, condemned the move and said: “We cannot believe independent scrutiny is being ditched at a time when three serving officers have been convicted of rape in the past year, one died while accused, 45 others are currently suspended over serious allegations and thousands more are still waiting to be vetted. Whenever yet another rogue officer is exposed, the Chief Constable promises openness and transparency.

“Now we learn there will be no independent scrutiny for the majority of officers, only high-ranking ones. But it is frontline officers who have most contact with vulnerable women and abuse victims, and those are the ones who have been found guilty of abuse.”
Six years after the recommendations of the Elish Angiolini review were accepted, independent misconduct panels will now apply only to the most senior officers – those at Assistant Chief Constable level and above. eu1.hubs.ly/H0z9tX20

“Thousands of victims discover physical violence evolves into psychological abuse. Our flawed court system allows it to continue for years on end. We need to take action and fully recognise prison bars cannot stop controlling behaviour.”
Despite her abuser being jailed, Liz Shanks continued to be terrorised by him, dragged through the court system for years arguing over who owned the sofa he tried to kill her on.

It’s time for the independent panels that were agreed.

It’s time for full re-vetting and proper scrutiny of every officer.

It’s time to stop protecting the force’s reputation over public trust and the safety of women.

In the week four rapist officers revealed within a year Police Scotland shelve independent misconduct reviews for all except top brass- a promise made six years ago following damning Angiolini review which they and gov agreed to adopt.Independent panels were to restore public fficers currently suspended at £4m a year-some for six years! @RealStephenKerr @MaryHowden

In late 1976, a handful of brave Glaswegian women got a hold of a telephone and a room and started to take phone calls from women who had or were surviving rape and sexual abuse. GCRC began to operate then.

Kickstarting today, with our ‘For Her’ appeal, we plan to take the full rsary to honour her, be honest for her, and provide hope for her. We will assess how we have done in realising our appeal ambitions in November 2027.

For now, find out more including how to donate here-

To coincide with Stacey Dooley’s 'Fallen Women', which shares the story behind our Fallen Women campaign and co-founder Jhiselle Feanny’s years of work seeking answers and change following the death of her sister, Bianca ‘Bee’ Thomas, KW are publishing our new national report, aw’, led and authored by Jhiselle.
killedwomen.org/fallen-women

Drawing on national policing data and new Freedom of Information research, the report sets out the case for a consistent, precautionary investigative response to the deaths of women following falls from height, where domestic abuse may be relevant.

● ‘Bee’s Law’: A national precautionary standard for falls from height and other unexpected deaths where domestic abuse may be relevant.

“The fall is a mechanism, not the context.
Women have been falling from height since the dawn of time. The context has too often gone unexplored and misunderstood – until now.”

● The recommendation: Implement Bee's Law now as a national operational policing standard, beginning with deaths following a fall from height where domestic abuse is known, suspected or cannot reasonably be excluded. Legislative or code-based underpinning can develop in parallel; the core safeguards should not wait for a pilot.

Women only spaces matter to women who have been subjected to men's violence.
nia was the first UK specialist organisation for women victim-survivors to say that they would use the Equality Act to provide services for women by women.
Please donate as a show of support if you can.
"Women only spaces are safe spaces. As a victim-survivor of sexual abuse at the hands of the opposite sex, it would be very triggering to talk to men about my trauma, experience, and feelings." This week you can show support and double the difference: donate.biggive.org/campaign/a05WS…
