@notasjad The only innocents in this war are the citizens who have to endure this unfortunate situation.

This is grossly untrue and honestly not helpful. There have been a large number of people from rich Ukrainian families offering to serve their country in war. At the same time, there has been corruption at a high level that has led to SOME Ukrainians profiting off their own people. However it’s extremely inaccurate to say that foreign aid flowing to Ukraine is only going to rich families. The fact that some reasonable and honorable countries have helped Ukraine is not indicative of Ukrainian exploitation. Perhaps you are projecting your own exploitative views?

@moehash1 @matnashed If the Rapid Support Forces are offering violence and extremism but the official government is offering repression of liberty and speech, then how are the citizens supposed to be protected? Journalists should be free to work and not targeted.

@Ashriya_Gorte I’m disappointed as well. Sudan has been either grossly ignored or actively made worse by many people. It’s incredibly horrible seeing such devastation to their land and people. Sudan deserves better.

Children should not bear responsibility for the actions of adults in their country, other members of their race, or for their religion. It’s already unfair when people believe that specifically Israel shouldn’t exist and is different from everyone else. Adding child hazing is even worse.

This could have been stopped - by RSF leaders, by the RSF's main foreign enabler (the UAE), or by the USG or others with the capacity to intervene. Diplomatic efforts were woefully insufficient.
In four days, it will be a year since the siege of Sudan's El Fashir ended in a bloodbath. This is the story of a group of young doctors, nurses and volunteers who stayed at the last functioning hospital until the very end. With @hafiz54472061 economist.com/interactive/18…

It seems clear that he prefers peace compared to Putin. Putin hasn’t really come to the negotiating table earnestly despite both Trump and Zelenskyy saying to pause the fighting at the current lines for over a year. Putin appears increasingly intent on keeping it going for a while.

It’s likely the technology amplifying the reach of current events. The Babylonians, Greeks, Huns, Egyptians, Chinese, and more all had their own geopolitical turmoils. The difference is anyone is able to find out about anything going on and everyone has an opinion about it, so events feel more important and are more noticeable.

By using asymmetric methods. Iran, Ukraine, the Houthis, and more have used those methods to create advantages and hit a technically superior enemy where they’re weak. In this case, it would likely involve attempted sabotage and destruction of expensive equipment and technology that the state uses in order to mitigate their advantage.

@KrazyK305 What do you think improves or lowers their chances in a conflict between the two? Does Haiti have a comparable advantage?

@covie_93 I agree, Ukraine deserves better than two superpowers treating it like poorly.

I recognize that the resolutions are not easy. There are real, measurable domestic pressures present in most of these cases and are the main documented drivers of turnout. Those pressures interact with local political structures, social trust levels, and historical grievances, which makes simple fixes rare. Fringe violence, opportunistic slogans, and foreign state amplification can complicate solutions. Practical progress usually means targeting the highest-leverage domestic constraints while limiting the space for escalation, rather than waiting for every factor to align perfectly.

There have been even more recent protests in countries like Argentina, Brazil, Nepal, Spain, Belgium, and India. Across the world we are seeing brave people who want to improve their country. At the same time, we are seeing dangerous and destructive people use this as a chance to inflict harm and spread their message. People should have the right to assemble but there is no right to blatantly disregard the law.

Last in this list is Serbia. Serbia’s nearly two-year student protests started with a deadly station-canopy collapse and grew into a challenge to long-term SNS rule. Students have been marching towards Belgrade for a rally, in hopes of implementing change.
Serbian resolution focus: Snap elections on Oct 25 offer a chance for accountability if the process is fair and results are respected. A reduction in state surveillance can restore public confidence. Investments in public services, education programs, and healthcare would help too.

Morocco saw recent teacher protests in Rabat over public-sector incorporation and pay. Separate smaller pro-Palestine and Western Sahara-related gatherings occurred as well.
Moroccan resolution focus: Concrete education and healthcare spending commitments with regional delivery, youth-job programs, and maintaining the relatively contained nature of current protests through negotiation rather than escalation.

The protests were not limited to Europe, as we see turmoil in Tunisia. The largest protests in years against President Kais Saied, led by UGTT labor union and opposition/civil-society groups. Demands center on economic hardship (water/power cuts, shortages, prices), release of critics, and restoration of democratic checks after the 2021 power consolidation.
Tunisian resolution focus: Dialogue with unions on service delivery and purchasing power, selective releases or fair trials for political detainees, and fiscal measures to ease shortages without further concentrating power.

Another flashpoint is Albania. They have had student-led escalation against long-serving PM Edi Rama over education costs, jobs, corruption, and a coastal development linked to Jared Kushner interests. Multi-day violence with protesters using stones, Molotovs, and attacks on government buildings, causing the police to use tear gas, water cannons, and rubber bullets.
Albanian resolution focus: Transparent review of the coastal project would largely help in addition to education-fee relief and anti-corruption steps with independent oversight. EU accession path may be a stabilizing incentive if violence is rejected.
