This week, international nursing leaders and researchers gathered in American Nursing Research Colloquium, highlighting the importance of translating scientific evidence into practical healthcare solutions.

A 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 review of 𝟓𝟗 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐬 found that nurse-led approaches to applying research in healthcare practice were associated with improvements in care processes and patient safety indicators.

But research-informed care is also about understanding the people healthcare systems serve.

𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞. 𝐍𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞. Together, these perspectives can help identify opportunities to improve communication, care quality, service delivery and patient safety.

ICN CEO @HowardCatton brought this message to his recent keynote at @SEHAHealth's International Nursing, Midwifery, and Allied Health Conference, sharing experience, learning and advancing nursing’s contribution to health. the power of nursing is reflected in nurses’ strong representation in its senior leadership. Giving nurses a voice in decisions helps health systems respond to the needs of the communities they serve.

Despite the challenges facing health systems worldwide, the ICN CEO shared an optimistic message: nursing is central to the solutions the world needs. Investing in nurses and their leadership is an investment in a healthier future for everyone.

ICN expresses its deepest condolences following the killing of a nurse and serious injury of another health worker while responding to an #Ebola alert in Bafwasende, Tshopo province, Democratic Republic of the Congo. ICN stands alongside their families, colleagues and the #DRC gnizing that other nursing colleagues have also lost their lives in previous attacks.

Responding to the tragedy, ICN Chief Executive Officer @HowardCatton warned that health misinformation and the breakdown of trust in science are becoming deadly threats to nurses and other health workers.

ICN President @jlcobosserrano was in Brazil for the XIX Pan American Nursing Research Colloquium, where he highlighted the collective strength of 30 million nurses worldwide and the power of research to drive real pacity to transform health systems. But we have to believe in that capacity ourselves.”
During his visit, he also met with Brazil’s Federal Nursing Council (COFEN), an ICN member organization, to discuss key nursing priorities in Brazil and across the Americas, reinforcing the importance of collaboration and a strong collective nursing voice.
