At the Curtain Raiser Event of the Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave (ESTIC-2026), Dr. Dhananjay Kumar Tiwary, MD @BIRAC_2012, Scientist-H, Department of Biotechnology (@DBTIndia), highlighted the transformative d Synthetic Biology in reshaping scientific research and innovation.

Emphasising the shift from merely reading biology to manipulating, editing and writing biology, he spoke about emerging possibilities ranging from animal-free milk and antibiotics to advanced medical devices, DNA printers and biodesign.

He also highlighted the convergence of synthetic biology with Artificial Intelligence (AI), including AI-enabled laboratories and CRISPR design, as a powerful driver of scientific progress.

Dr. Dhananjay Kumar Tiwary also underscored the role of the BioE3 Policy in creating new opportunities for the biotechnology sector, with the vision of positioning India as a global leader in science, biotechnology and innovation.

Dr. Emanuele Buratti, International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (#ICGEB), Trieste, Italy 🇮🇹, shared ICGEB's experience in advancing international scientific partnerships for biotechnology & food security at the #ANSO-#COMSATS-#TWAS International Conference.

Elaence for Development approach, he outlined how research, scientific fellowships, capacity building & technology transfer are enabling developing countries to strengthen indigenous capabilities in medical, agricultural & industrial biotechnology.

Citing practical interventions, Dr. Buratti shared ICGEB's contributions to affordable biosimilar medicines, sustainable agricultural practices in Kenya 🇰🇪 & improved food-processing technologies in Ethiopia 🇪🇹, where an initiative has generated over 4,000 rural jobs & benefited approximately 32,000 people.

He emphasized the importance of equitable access to scientific infrastructure, collaborative research networks & open scientific knowledge in translating biotechnology innovations into tangible socio-economic benefits, particularly for developing economies.

Today's discussion showcased #Trieste’s role as hub ce and science diplomacy while confirming science's key coontribution to the implementation of the #2030Agenda, to strengthening scientific capacities in countries of the Global South, promoting women’s participation and leadership in research, and exploring the opportunities offered by emerging technologies and #AI.

As 🇮🇹 PR @margiodi aptly underscored "Science diplomacy is a necessity. From health and energy to climate and artificial intelligence, none of the challenges before the international community can be addressed without science, and without broad access to scientific capacity."
