Some may be looking for a scapegoat if U.S. midterm results don't go their way, but Canada isn't responsible for American political outcomes.
Under @MarkJCarney, Canada is focused on what we can control: standing up for Canadian workers, opening new markets, and building a stronger, more resilient economy.

This week, @MarkJCarney launched a new Strategic Partnership with the UAE following the first-ever visit to Canada by a Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. Canada and the UAE signed the new Canada-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which will reduce tariffs on over 99% of current Canadian exports to the UAE, expanding markets for Canadian farmers growing pulses and canola, manufacturers of industrial machinery and power generation equipment, our world-class aerospace sector, and other Canadian innovators. This is part of the PM's goal to diversify Canada's trade relationships and reduce our dependence on the United States at a time when our closest ally has increasingly weaponized trade against us.
While we don't see eye to eye with the UAE on every issue, engagement with key global partners creates opportunities for Canadian workers, businesses, and exporters. In a more uncertain world, Canada must build relationships across regions, expand access to new markets, and advance our interests as a democratic world leader through dialogue and cooperation.

Sport has the power to shape lives and connect people who have disparate cultures and ideologies; it has been proven, historically.
This week, our fed gov't announced over $156 mill. in 2026-7, for 62 National Sport Organizations. This is part of our generational $1-billion investment in sport to upgrade stadiums, fields and community centers and help athletes succeed from the playground to the podium. Give a talented kid an opportunity to succeed as an athlete.

Canada has the critical minerals the world needs.
We’re matching Ontario’s $1 billion investment to build road infrastructure to reach the Ring of Fire. To unlock our critical minerals supply chain. To create up to 70,000 jobs.

Knowledge is power.
As global research and innovation evolve, investing in a strong Canadian research ecosystem is critical. Our federal government announced more than $813 million to support world-class research with funds for 450 researchers across Canada, cutting edge research infrastructure, and Canadian research institutions.
Canada will become a global leader in science and research, advancing our global competitiveness and the economy of the future. #CanadaStrong

On a Trumped-up charge, the U.S. accuses Canada of interfering in its midterm elections. The truth is that we are not. As PM @MarkJCarney has clarified, the U.S. initiated a series of trade tariffs, and we responded with countermeasures. Canadian officials are in the U.S. to attract investment from American companies to Canada. Quotes from the U.S. administration were taken out of context.
Our government's actions are in the interests of Canadians and Canadian trade. We would never engage in election interference, nor would we want anyone else to do the same to us, despite rumours of U.S. interference in Quebec and Alberta. When disinformation prevails, we must be careful to get the facts first.

For Women’s History Month, I’m honoring another remarkable Canadian hero, Roberta Bondar, CC, OOnt, FRSC and Canada's first woman astronaut.
Despite being dissuaded from pursuing science as it “wasn’t a subject for girls”, Bondar went on to complete a Bachelor of Science in zoology and agriculture, a Master of Science, a PhD in neuroscience and a Doctor of Medicine. Bondar became the first Canadian woman and second Canadian in space when she flew aboard the American space shuttle Discovery in 1992. She is a pioneer in space medicine research. Through the Roberta Bondar Foundation, she educated Canadians about environmentalu stewardship through art and photography. A Companion of the Order of Canada, she received the Order of Ontario, the NASA Space Medal, and an induction into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame and Canada's Walk of Fame. She paved the way for women in science, medicine, and exploration.

Congratulations to those who won last night's election. Let's work together for British Columbians and Canada. To those who lost, thank you for putting your name forward and for your past service. It is not an easy job.

Affordability for Canadians has been our government’s priority since day one, and we’re taking action to help Canadians cope.
Under the new Local Food Infrastructure Fund: Community Support Stream, Food Banks Canada and Second Harvest will each receive up to $10 million to further distribute funds to local food banks, community organizations, and not-for-profits so that all Canadians, especially those facing food insecurity, have access to nutritious food and that the permanent school food program will help children have a nutritious lunch.
Food Banks Canada and Second Harvest will have open applications so, organizations across the country will be able to apply.

Canada is acting to build strong partnerships for security and trade.
This week, @MarkJCarney's visit to Türkiye launched a new Strategic Partnership for a comprehensive free trade agreement to boost cooperation between our defence industries, trade on LNG, nuclear and renewable energies and an expanded Air Transport Agreement, increasing weekly passenger flights from 12 to up to 21.
Together, these agreements will create new opportunities for Canadian workers and businesses, as we pivot away from dependence on the USA to diversify our alliances.

October is Women's History Month and, in honour of it, I celebrate Rosemary Brown, OC, OBC, a fellow woman of colour political powerhouse. After immigrating to Canada from Jamaica in 1951 to study at McGill University, she fought hard and made her place despite facing sexism and racism firsthand.
Brown challenged traditional barriers of race and gender in Canadian politics. In 1972, she entered provincial politics with the NDP in Vancouver-Burrard, becoming the first Black woman elected to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. She later ran for the leadership of the federal NDP. She pursued her advocacy internationally as CEO of MATCH International and in 1993 was named Chief Commissioner of the Ontario Human Rights Commission. Brown has received 15 honorary doctorates, the Order of British Columbia, the Order of Canada, and the United Nations Human Rights Fellowship. She has paved the way for women of colour in politics; I’m proud of her legacy and of all the women who rise to challenge the status quo.

In the face of U.S. tariffs, Canada is focused on what we can control.
On October 21, @MarkJCarney and @fordnation announced $8.7 billion in investments and new measures to strengthen strategic industries, support workers, businesses, and protect 🇨🇦 steel industry. The Joint Steel Action Fund comprises $3.55 billion from the federal government. It will also help Ontario’s auto manufacturers modernize production, invest in new technology, and strengthen the industry for the future.
As Canada faces hardships, we must act to strengthen our national industrial capacity and independence #CanadaStrong

Today is Election Day in BC: a chance to decide who will be our provincial government. It is concerning to see the low turnout for advance voting. More than ever, at this time of tariff levies by the U.S. administration and our need to diversify trade in order to build a strong, united, independent, and sovereign nation, we need to ensure that we play a part in deciding who will form our provincial government. Democracy and unity of purpose depend on our participation. Please exercise your duty to vote. Our future depends on it. Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Canada's aluminum industry continues to be unfairly targeted by unreasonable trade actions from the USA.
In response, our federal government will maintain the counter tariffs on American aluminum and take strong steps to defend Canadian workers, businesses, and communities. Today, @melaniejoly announced a $193 million investment in Canada’s critical minerals sector to strengthen aluminum processing in Quebec, maintaining 6,000 full-time, well-paying jobs, upgrading major infrastructure, and improving technology performance.
Our Buy Canadian policy prioritizes use of Canadian aluminum to help tariff-hit businesses stay competitive. This way we can strengthen our own sector domestically, whether it is through investment in forestry or other tariff-vulnerable natural resources. #BuildCanadaStrong will require us to use Canadian resources, Canadian workers, and Canadian products domestically to expand and secure Canadian businesses and industries.
