Agree with this and would add: do interesting things and interesting people will come to you.

Cuidado. This could affect TN visa holders in the US looking to switch to a Green Card.
TN visa is officially temporary.
TN visa is officially temporary.
An alien who is in the U.S. temporarily and wants a Green Card must return to their home country to apply.
This policy allows our immigration system to function as the law intended instead of incentivizing loopholes.
The era of abusing our nation’s immigration system is over.

This is a VERY good take and observation from @levie
It feels to me that FDE roles could be replacing what were consultant / solutions architect & similar roles 2010-2022 (where many many new grads and early career devs were hired)

If I were a college career counselor or in career services, I’d quickly be figuring out how to get students to understand these forward deployed engineer jobs exist and how to get them.
The requirements are a mix of deep technical skills, often CS majors or minors. You must be great at understanding problem solving, how to have systems thinking, and have a strong business acumen. The kicker, of course, is to make sure you’re very deep in AI agents; you need to have fluency in coding agents, MCP, CLIs, Skills, and so on.
Hundreds (thousands?) of technology companies will be hiring for these roles, same with any consulting and IT services company, and the vast major of mid-size and large enterprises will be hiring for this talent internally as well.
One great example of opportunity for highly technical talent out there.

Ahora más que nunca...LEARN ENGLISH!
Forward Deployed Engineer is the hottest, and one of the most in-demand, jobs right now.
Every major AI company is hiring including companies like @OpenAI @cognition @AnthropicAI and @Google
If you possess a combination of soft skills (good communication), have an engineering to speed on the latest and greatest in agentic coding you're probably able to land one of them.
They pay well and offer a foot in the door to some of the fastest growing companies in the world.

We are hiring forward deployed engineers from around the world.
The talent we’ve been talking to coming from X has been incredible.
Many engineers that go through our ‘beat AI’ challenge (in my profile) have been remarkable.
If that’s you, take the challenge. 😉

Forward deployed engineers, or equivalent, are about to become one of the most in-demand jobs in tech. And one of the most important functions for AI rollouts.
Deploying agents is far more technical of a task than most people realize, often far more involved than deploying software. Software generally works the same way every time, and generally for the past few decades has been updated versions of an existing technology or concept (which basically means easier for the enterprise to update their workflows on a newer system).
With agents, you’re actually deploying the equivalent of work output within the enterprise. The customer is effectively using you as a professional services provider for a task, which they expect to get solved nearly end-to-end now. This means you need to actually deeply understand the business process as a vendor, and get the customer from the current to the end state seamlessly.
Companies need help figuring out which models will work best for their workflows, they need extensive evals setup often, they need change management support for workflows, they need to get their data setup for the agents, and constant tuning of the agentic system for their process.
Massive role in tech now. And another example of the kind of highly technical work that AI is creating.

Este rol se está poniendo muy de moda. El Forward Deployed Engineer es un poco un Solutions Engineer con un enfoque en AI.
Es un buen oportunidad para juniors que manejan AI bien y con alto nivel de inglés.

I always wonder about the build in public types and people who share revenue on this site....as they hang out casually in Mexico or Colombia.

Gaps on your resume make the reader work. That's the whole problem.
A recruiter looks at your CV and sees you worked at Company A until March 2022, then started at Company B in November 2022. Now they have to figure out what happened in those eight months. Did you get fired? at whole time? Traveling? Sick? Burned out? Taking care of someone? They don't know. And they won't ask yet, because they're still deciding whether to call you at all.
Sometimes there isn't even a real gap. You left in late March, started in early April, but you wrote "2022" on one line and "2022" on the next and now it looks like there could be months missing
***A resume isn't a legal document. It's a sales document. And the first rule of selling is: don't make the buyer do the work.***
When someone reads a clean resume, no gaps, clear timeline, everything makes sense on the first pass, something happens. They relax.
When someone reads a messy resume, they tense up. They start building a list of questions. Questions are not good. Questions mean doubt.
So either don't have gaps, or **explain them right there** on the CV. One line is enough. "Career break: relocated to Switzerland" or "Sabbatical: completed AWS certification." --> You're removing a reason for them to hesitate.
And finally: If they have a good feeling about you, they will offer you more money.

Las vacaciones ilimitadas son una trampa
We moved to “unlimited PTO” to show we trust people.
No accrual, no tracking. Just “take what you need.”
One analyst actually believed it.
He booked two full weeks off in July and put it on the shared calendar.
His manager forwarded it to me with just: “Seriously?”
I told him we’d handle it.
I approved the request, told the analyst to have an amazing break, and added a smiley face.
What they don't know is we track PTO differently.
We have an internal dashboard to track this stuff with our own metrics.
Anyone who books more than 5 consecutive days turns orange.
Anyone who does it during Q3 turns red.
Next to his name, in the “Promotion Risk” column, I changed the tag from “Emerging Leader” to “Fire by Q4.”
Enjoy your vacation James.

This is why you MUST try to figure out agentic coding now.
If you can’t use it for your for-profit work, create a side project that is majorly built using agents.
Get a feeling for the loop, the models, and proper prompt technique.
It’s either that or becoming obsolete.

I've never felt this much behind as a programmer. The profession is being dramatically refactored as the bits contributed by the programmer are increasingly sparse and between. I have a sense that I could be 10X more powerful if I just properly string together what has become available over the last ~year and a failure to claim the boost feels decidedly like skill issue. There's a new programmable layer of abstraction to master (in addition to the usual layers below) involving agents, subagents, their prompts, contexts, memory, modes, permissions, tools, plugins, skills, hooks, MCP, LSP, slash commands, workflows, IDE integrations, and a need to build an all-encompassing mental model for strengths and pitfalls of fundamentally stochastic, fallible, unintelligible and changing entities suddenly intermingled with what used to be good old fashioned engineering. Clearly some powerful alien tool was handed around except it comes with no manual and everyone has to figure out how to hold it and operate it, while the resulting magnitude 9 earthquake is rocking the profession. Roll up your sleeves to not fall behind.
