5 key takeaways from @McKinsey's "The state of AI in 2023" report.

1. Expected business disruption is significant.

"Respondents predict meaningful changes to their workforces. They anticipate workforce cuts in certain areas and large reskilling efforts to address shifting most common use cases are in marketing and sales, product and service development, and service operations.

3. Industries relying most heavily on knowledge work are likely to experience the most disruption.

"Knowledge-based industries such as banking (up to 5 percent), pharmaceuticals and medical products (also up to 5 percent), and education (up to 4 percent) could experience significant effects"

4. Inaccuracy, cybersecurity and IP infringement are biggest risks

5. Machine Learning Operations is likely to play a large role in the future.

"AI high performers most often point to models and tools, such as monitoring model performance in production and retraining models as needed over time, as their top challenge."

I’ve only skimmed through a small portion of her work. But it’s quite remarkable how she has identified that the gender pay gap within the same occupation predominantly emerges upon the birth of a first child.

I’m sorry to hear about Prof. Margaret Archer's demise. Her passing is a huge loss for the field of Sociology since her intellectual engagement has left a lasting impact. She served as an inspiration for me, particularly as a respected female researcher. R.I.P.
The International Sociological Association express their sincere condolences on the sensitive passing of Margaret Archer, a leading sociological theorist and former ISA President (1986-1990), the first woman elected for this position. She will be missed.
