With the UK outbreak of Salmonella (likely imported eggs) and the ongoing US outbreak I thought it would be timely to draw attention to I review I wrote a couple of years ago, that focusses on the successful control measures in UK poultry production.

Sad to hear of the passing of Andy Kershaw. A man who had his troubles but a true enthusiast and supporter of music. His excitement on introducing JAMC on Whistle Test back in 1985 was tangible.

Merry Bloody Christmas from a major publisher sending me multiple emails on Christmas days to remind me to invite more reviewers for the 20+ manuscripts I am handling as an editor. I know these are automated but FFS turn it off for one day.

@dickandtinasson @2manypeople4me @DrNeilStone I think you will find it’s the USA of the G20 developed economies. Working on zoonoses then understanding socioeconomic factors is important to understand because transmission routes and acceptance of interventions. 1/2

@2manypeople4me @DrNeilStone I’m not a vet. My background is immunology and microbiology. I happened to work on production animals by chance and have spent 22 years as an academic at two great vet schools. But remember if your hubris that food production is actually more important than medicine 2/2

@BritainForTrump France declared war on Germany following the latter’s invasion of Poland.
France honoured its treaty obligations exactly the same as UK.
I didn’t read the rest of your post.

Utter bollocks. A tiny fragment of homology encoding for 6 amino acids (if even transcribed) representing less than 0.5% of the spike protein. You have not found a gene, just a fragment of DNA homology that's likely non-coding. I'm sure if you compare with enough genomes 1/2

you will find plenty of matches to a short sequence. After all there are only bases to match and even a tiny viral genome has around 300,000bp. 2/2

I imagine Sir Keir is a happy man this morning .
The meltdown on here, Telegraph and Mail suggest he hit his target.

Strange that the mass of social media postings about use of hotels for asylum seekers has spiralled upwards since July 2024. Yet the huge increase occurred in 22 & 23 and costs have been reduced by increasing occupancy per room and reduced use over much of the country since '24.

@racecourserambl Sorry, that's pushing it. Cardiff have the largest (but also quite volatile) fanbase of the four Welsh clubs in the EFL. After some shocking crowds in the late 80s they have had decent support since the Rick Wright days. 1/2

Largest city and catchment area of Barry, Vale, RCT (although some Swans fans), Bridgend and Maesteg. Swansea have a smaller but more loyal city following and attract many West and Mid-Wales fans. Wrexham have decent support bolstered by TV but lose to NW giants in catchment 2/2

Found this interesting. Given the Greens (and indeed Plaid Cymru) have the same number of seats as Reform, there is almost no coverage of them. Does not mean I agree with their policies, but would be nice to have the chance to see and hear them.

@Albion_Rover Lots of assumptions. First is that evolution is my chance. It's not, it's under a selection pressure. Second is the number numbers of molecules in the number of organisms and cells is enormous. Thirdly evolution is clearly observable in microbes in real time 1/2

and in higher organisms within our lifetime or at least scientific recording. We have shown local evolution in chickens in Africa in the face of selection pressure from infection and their environment. And don't tell me this is 'adaptation' because the genome itself changes 2/2

I wonder how many people were actually watching the stream of Bob Vylan on iPlayer? Perhaps 20,000 or so. Although reasonably well known to fans of alternative music, the group were hardly a household name. Probably will sell a few more records now though.
