It's that time of year! Meeting the latest cohort of @MMBDTP students & teaching them #comparativegenomics
Day 1: mapping & #variant calling. @gemma_langridge taught us valuable lessons (sanity checking your data) & @rodwell_ella showed the large scale genomics performed @UKHSA

All true ❤️
Our Emma will be posting about her #Dyslexia for #DyslexiaAwarenessWeek

We love a rushed tweet or message from her where we have to interpret a spelling mistake or a missed word - except for the time she wrote "I am planning on leaving" missing the NOT

We wouldn't change her ❤️

This has been in the works for a while, congrats Fatemeh, @jakobjung and @LBarquist!
We determined gene essentiality in 13 Enterobacteriaceae including E. coli, Salmonella and Klebsiella strains, and find ~1/3 of the essential genome is variable -- but! there's no evidence for genus-specific essential genes, implying rapid turnover journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/mb…

"I was delighted to get the fellowship. I think what helped me was to bring in the bigger picture in my application, how you can bring aspects of different areas of research together to understand something new."

Hoping to cheer up my tennis mad boy. He ended 2023 on a high, hitting a 1000 stroke rally with his coach. But 2024 has brought a neck muscle sprain and now tonsillitis and he's sad not to have made it back on court yet. Any advice @andy_murray @jamie_murray @JudyMurray ?

@ClaireJenkins2 wrapped up day 1 of this @MMBDTP training week by explaining how the wonderful team @UKHSA's Gastrointestinal Bacteria Reference Unit do comparative genomics to investigate outbreaks to better public health. We are honoured we got a rare talk out of Claire #AcedIt

So pleased to see this out - it's been 7 years in the making!! Huge congrats to @bluebirdsjunk for being awesome and sticking with me through this one. And big thanks to @npjAMR for supporting our paper to publication!
New work in @npjAMR shows that we currently cannot explain all #resistance mechanisms in non-aureus staphylococci 🦠💊

Yesterday we went for a paddle along the Rivers Wensum & Yare thanks to @PubAndPaddle. Everything might hurt this morning, but a fun & mostly senere time was had by all, with ice cream & great food to help along the way. Also spotted some great wildlife including a seal 🦭
