I wasn’t going to bring up marriage and family, but @angela_rye opened the door so I had to be honest about both why—and where—I do my work. This interaction is why it is so important to have conversations that cross political and ideological lines.

I joined @angela_rye on Cite Your Source for a spirited debate about the N-word. At one point the discussion turned to why I’m at @Heritage, which allowed me to talk abt why black leaders ignore marriage and family structure.

Excited to be in Chicago representing @Heritage at the @illinoispolicy’s Center for Poverty Solutions conference. Dr. Eddie Kornegay (the center’s ED) and Will Crossley, president of @WoodsonCenter, are talking about agency, dignity, and community empowerment.

This show is so beloved because it’s built on the real relationship between friends who genuinely know sports and love talking about them. A 30-min show that puts substance over hot takes and hosts who care more about the games than going viral. Truly the last of a dying breed.
In case you missed it, cheers to 25 years!

A town hall pushing “integration” as the key to improving black student outcomes is absurd. That said, I wish @DOEChancellor would’ve said that a ban on screens would make parents w/options like NHJ pull their kids out of the types of schools her daughter didn’t want to attend.

Median household income by race follows the same order as marriage rates. For context, median income for black *married* couples under 65 is $128,000. Family inputs drive both social AND economic outcomes.
We are not going to bootstrap our way or marry our way into wealth. Yall dont understand the game been rigged since the new deal.
White people got subsidized and they left black people out in the cold. And we are seeing the effects from it in the net worth update.

Every @DemSocialists candidate and elected official should be asked whether they support the push to abolish the nuclear family that is being promoted in the DSA’s official publication.
New in DemLeft: DSA’s Workers Deserve More calls for women’s, queer, and Indigenous liberation — but none of that is possible if the organization continues to treat the nuclear family as a given rather than a structure built to preserve capitalism.

“No longer is “shacking up”…for couples who are in committed relationships for years en route to marriage. Today, it is..common for young adults to live together after a few months of dating and without a clear path to the altar. ”

I didn’t hear anything in *this clip* to suggest the issue is not getting attention from other men, yet that is one of the most common responses I’ve seen to this post. This clip really is a Rorschach test for gender dynamics and relationships.
Marc Lamont Hill's wife, Dr. Melissa, got emotional while talking about aging as a Black woman. She said she hates the way she's aged, and that after having her son, it felt like she aged overnight. To her, it felt like she gave up her beauty to become a mother.

We had a great time yesterday talking to @DelanoSquires about his new book The Vanishing Black Family, the importance of the biblical family, cultural opposition to God's design, his work at the @Heritage, and more. Thankful for his brilliant work and heart for the gospel, the community. Tune in to the Grimké Podcast next week to catch the full interview!

I sat down with @DelanoSquires to unpack a crucial yet frequently overlooked dimension of social justice: marriage, fatherhood, and family structure. This is an uncomfortable but necessary conversation at the heart of human flourishing. You won’t want to miss this one.

The Yaeli Martinez Child Protection Act takes its name from Yaeli Martinez, a 19-year-old girl who took her own life three years after the Los Angeles County Department of Child and Family Services took custody away from her mother, who refused to “affirm” Yaeli’s transgender identity as male.
The department had said that keeping Yaeli out of her mother’s home would decrease her chances of committing suicide. 🧵

The most “radical” thing a man can do in today’s culture is find a godly woman, marry her, be faithful to her, and raise children together. Creating broken homes doesn’t suddenly become empowering just because you dress it up in faux revolutionary terms.

Please join us virtually or in-person @AEI on September 30 for Radical Grace: A Tribute to the Life and Work of Bob Woodson.
We have an incredible line up of leaders from every walk of life slated to speak. They were all touched by Bob and want to honor his legacy.
Throughout at communities heal best when individuals reject a victimhood mentality, shun grievances, and choose local, moral action to become agents of their own uplift.
What a special man and a unique opportunity to remember his fight for human dignity.
Please join us.

The world has lost a giant of a human being.
With the passing of the great @BobWoodson I have lost my friend, mentor and guidepost whose life exemplified virtue in action.
Just a few weeks ago, in one of Bob’s last public appearances, I had a Fireside Chat with Bob in front nx at @VertexAcademies / vertexacademies.org/about/bob-wood…
Not surprisingly Bob shared so much wisdom and grace. Just one - “Never allow yourself to be defined by the challenges in your life. Take enough strength from those who love you to overcome those who do not.”
I will miss Bob. The power of Bob’s faith and enduring legacy will live on through me and tens of thousands of people lucky enough to have known him and who were inspired by his lived example.

.@nativelandpod this was sweet. The problem is that many black leaders practice a specific type of family-building strategy privately but won’t promote it publicly. That’s why there weren’t ANY sessions at CBC on the black family or how family structure impacts social outcomes.
Black love is nation-building.
Governor Wes Moore’s tribute to First Lady Dawn Moore is a testament to how love rooted in purpose and partnership can strengthen our families, shape our leaders, and ultimately make our country better.
