@michaelgove @StuartLock I think it’s time to enjoy retirement. Schools who are more welcoming to children with SEN are more likely to be downgraded for inclusion. That is wrong. Simple. I’ve seen schools who actively discourage pupils with SEN get a strong grade for inclusion. Requires Improvement.

For a sector that’s all about giving opportunities…
Why do we only give borderline grade 4 students one opportunity to pass the GCSE?

Highlight of my weekend was shaking hands with @chrismalkinphys and having a brief conversation about the Rumbelows Sprint Challenge. #legend

I saw @lemnsissay speak this week at The Next Decade Conference hosted by @WellspringAT - A superb, inclusion focused event.
This week’s Notes from the Train reflects on the people who remember your name and getting the basics brilliant.

If the only way to get academic success is to lose tens of students from your cohort, it’s not success.

Progress 8 has always favoured London by design.
DfE’s own analysis shows that only 21 schools that have the most disadvantaged, white British cohorts returned a positive progress 8 score.
You can’t punish schools for simply serving different communities.

You can’t build a successful education system around shame, embarrassment, detention & exclusion. You can’t create inclusion for all via a curriculum that only works for some. So as the saying goes “If the child doesn’t learn the way you teach, start teaching the way they learn.”

The latest ofsted model will simply perpetuate, or possibly worsen, what is already happening. It is a dead parrot simple as that. The selection by compliance schs will continue to be rewarded. The inclusive ones will live in fear of the next insp. People will be damaged again
