I got fed up of people in the political party I was in, or who had similar views to me, throwing around moronic terms like right-wing, fascist, authoritarian, neo-liberal etc to describe policies that TUs would happily have supported from the 1950s -1990s.

The most annoying thing of the last 16 years in education, from someone who "hails from the left" (Gibb and Peal), is that we allowed the agenda of standards and safety to be known as the Govian/ Gibb agenda or era.

We should have been arguing with them about resources, about how to fund it and taxation, about the detail, and about the impact getting to *even more* poor young people - it's still not good enough that in one LA I work in disadvantaged kids have a 25% chance of reaching EXS.

Under Bridget Phillipson, though I disagreed with very much, Labour were clear that standards and safety (behaviour) matter - especially for the poorest.
