Over the last year, I've fallen in love with Rust.
I was a C programmer for about a decade, really loved C, then moved to Python, but always kinda missed C.
Then I discovered Rust, and well, I like it more than C.
I also think we're moving into a time where we can see code as art in many ways. Code can be beautiful, or at least, it is to me.
And while we all write code with agents now, that doesn't mean we can't write beautiful code, and work on improving our code quality.
In a world where agents write all our code, writing better code is actually even more important imo.
Soooo, I've been working on a skill that I use with my agents to write better Rust code, distilled from the Google Rust style guide, the official API Guidelines, Effective Rust, and a couple of others.
Thought I'd share it, it's called BeautifulRust 🦀 ✨

Big fan of #Lua in #rust with the mlua crate.
It's a great fit for modern AI Program execution in #rustlang
Crazy small (400KB), env-controlled, sandboxed, and extensible.
The mlua crate is a gem
Thanks to the Lua creators and mlua maintainers!

This is the way...
Sydney Sweeney reveals in an interview that she doesn’t care about the PHP vulnerability because she moved everything to Rust in 2024.
“They said the rewrite would take six months. We’re on month 30. We haven’t shipped a feature since, but I’m having a very normal Wednesday.”

@mark_k If you had a language that was super easy to learn, but full of weird oddities, and people could jam out websites super fast with it, there it is, piles of it

We're starting to see some agentic Rust forks (or alternative implementations) focused on iteration speed.
More-so than the specific projects, I'm interested in the ideas being explored (and how they could evolve upstream), so wanted to collate a few here...

October has been an absolute nightmare for software
> Railway - customer secrets exposure
> LiteLLM - malicious PyPI + Docker releases
> Zeabur - infrastructure breached
> OpenCode - AI API keys exposed
> OVHcloud CLI - official binaries backdoored
> Rank Math PRO - malware in official plugin
> TeamUpdraft - customer data compromised
> ConnectWise - cloud backup identities compromised
> Tensorlake - npm package infected
> SubQuery - backdoored npm package
> GhostAction - GitHub repos with malicious workflows
> PHP - critical RCE vulnerabilities
> Node.js - security vulnerabilities patched
> eMudhra - certificate authority keys compromised
> Tailscale - eMudhra incident
At this point, the biggest security risk might not be the code we write, but the code we trust...

You know it'll be "fun" when PHP Core Developer considers the best mitigation to be "turning off a server for a day". 🙃

I'll call slop slop whether or not it was made by AI. Slop existed before AI. But AI-driven slop is worse just because it is not something the vibe-coder is going to learn from.
"Generic" is a criticism to ask for something better.
"Broken on mobile". How is that bad to say?

I wish experienced developers would stop shitting on people who build things with AI.
“AI slop.”
“Generic.”
“Broken on mobile.”
A person that doesn't know the first thing about programming, but had an idea, built an actual product, and had the courage to share it with the world, gets bullied basically.
How about a little encouragement instead?
Everyone starts somewhere!
