in just 30d we multiplied boat.dev's already above 6 figures ARR by 3.4 full PLG (yapping on X to be precise),
no paid ads, no events, no big contracts, no sales motion
yeah, it's possible when people really be loving your product

what people don't realize is that @luaroncrew and I met 5y ago, failed our first startup together
we joined again more than 1.5y ago to start working on boat.dev (before even the left of this chart)
we came into sandboxes as frustrated users, and we developed them
slowly, all from 1st principles, all with a user-centric approach
we wanted to build the openclaw for software engineering, before openclaw, before long running cloud agents, before cursor had a cloud desktop, before the surge of ADEs
no sandbox was good enough for our usecase, and I believe now except boat.dev none would still be good enough
we wanted to build:
1. a always on CTO agent "Alfred" that would take high level goals & constantly loop (before loops) on your stuff:
this needed a always on sandbox, still cheap if running 24/7 but beefy as f, with ability to setup an entire dev environment + browser for acquiring info or signal to loop on + a desktop to record demos on to keep deliverables super high level
2. the ability for the CTO agent to make copies of his entire disk and setup live into shorter running sandboxes with same OS and all, just for individual subagents and tasks that needed isolated testing
this needed a robust fs snapshot system, git-like in the background, optimized for small snapshot size, yet robust and predictable
all of this at a time of still great agent flackyness
the sandbox got easy to use, (cost) optimized and unique enough that we thought maybe it'd have more success as a standalone product
and we were so go damn right, our ARR has 34x since we shipped boat.dev in late may
so yeah, we had to grind for monthes to get something okay-ish
overnight successes don't exist, great products require full honesty, full dedication, full grind, and knowing the pain as good as having lived it first hand

the ultimate infra reliability trick:
> create a telegram bot
> plug it to your backend
> have it message based on thresholds & e2e tests
> shit happens: you know it before your users
> team across timezones sees it, you sleep safe
pov: slowdown fixed by @luaroncrew at 4am

just got access to abliterated chinese models on @morphllm for cyberdefense
prompted to pentest us for:
> cross tenant secret leaking, penetration or spying
> guest-host takeover
> control pane takeover
ngl our engineering is good, it's struggling, we're gonna need real pros

came to the attention of @utpalnadiger that i had not worn a tie in 2 days
which is utterly undignified behavior from a YC founder and captain of boat.dev
so today we fix that

boat offers the least expensive full VMs for agents at $0.00001/s for 4c 8gb ram 50gb nvme
to further protect these prices historically we've had to cap the n° VMs starts / day
we raised the limits 2 times already, and today we add a way to burst above them, up to 3x, using get up to 25% free credits for starts, snapshots & VM time by buying more of them upfront
the kind of spiky workloads we saw in prod that benefit from bursting remain 4x to 8x less costly on boat.dev than Daytona, E2B or Modal
and it's now way less frustrating to pull them off
on boat.dev more than anywhere else, the generous compute pricing aligns closely & sustainably with real costs

nice try
we spun up 700 boat.dev VMs 4c x 8gb, started codex + minecraft, made it all play in multiplayer together
they all booted from a snapshot in the first 10s, which cost $0.07, same price per VM, core & ram
but much more impressive capabilities and scale

400 vCPU, 800 GB RAM in total
All ready in 10s, and only $0.01 cost

why boat wins:
our CLI lets you(r agents) do absolutely anything in any way possible
and since you(r agents) can report feedback with it, and I keep handling feedback same day as I wake up, it keeps on self-improving
we're not just the cheapest or most powerful sandbox, we're dbox
and that is what takes the most effort, and is the hardest to throw money at to solve

our boat.dev cloud VMs are 10x cheaper than blacksmith for CI
users have been using us for that, saying they prefer us over namespace
so I wrote a guide about it: docs.boat.dev/ci
(I mean my agents read messages with users that do CI on us and wrote it)

you're right
boat.dev is the temu of AI sandboxes
> undercutting everyone by 4x to 18x
> made in a 3rd world country overseas (France)
> the entire internet keeps talking about it
oh except we also top performance benchmarks
but ignore that

you can save millions on your sandbox / cloud VM bill
our daily billable usage on boat.dev cloud VMs recently crossed >10k vCPU, 20TB of RAM, 128TB disk
here is how much this costs yearly on other providers:
