Seven months in, Iran & the U.S. each believe they have tools to make the other blink, fortitude to wait the other out, and disinclination to make concessions the other seeks.

Zohran Mamdani on Iran:

I have to say that I find it quite ironic to read a post from the vice president as if he's describing the actions of a different administration.

He's the vice president of the United States of America. He is not just some commentator online.

And there f the fact that this is a war that they started. It's a war that they can end.

If they think it was a part of their political demise, then why don't they actually start to take some action to reflect that?

Told @BarakRavid: Tehran's temptation is likely to mistake Trump's political weakness for military weakness and overplay its hand, when the smarter move is to bank a deal while Washington still wants one. axios.com/2026/11/05/tru…

“There's definitely still the risk that a president who has lost the ballot box might feel that he needs redemption in the battlefield.” Iran expert @AliVaez tells me that now is the time for Tehran to be flexible with the US, and negotiate a face-saving way out of the Iran war.

For too long, most Iranian-Americans have anchored their politics in some combination of foreign interventionism, Islamophobia, and blindly pro-Israel and anti-Arab sentiments.

In this election, American voters rejected exactly those kinds of cynical beliefs.

Iranian-Americans need to rethink their values and their civic duties. We ought to be a constructive, progressive force in U.S. politics.

2028 will be a chance to make amends.

Midnight Hammer was completely unnecessary and blatantly illegal, it recklessly interrupted what could’ve been fruitful negotiations and put us directly on path to the current war.

Democrats need to be done with this stuff.
Dan that’s nonsense. Midnight Hammer was necessary and appropriate, but Iran was not anything like two weeks from a nuclear weapon on February 28.

Told @NBCNews: The midterms have clipped Trump’s political wings, but not his military ones. With the Iran war an albatross around his neck, he faces a choice: seek a face-saving exit or escalate to reclaim the initiative. The danger is that a lame duck at home could become a flame duck abroad. nbcnews.com/world/iran/ira…

People close to President Trump are blaming the Iran war for widespread Republican losses on Tuesday night.

Some WH officials and GOP allies said the midterm elections would have looked very diff if the war wrapped up months ago.

Fingerpointing inside admin has begun.
