BioWare and their games were absolutely formative for me. It's hard to process the finality of their closure, even if the studio hadn't been the same for a while now.

This article is my attempt to honor the BioWare legacy and provide hope for the future.

No other modern RPG has handled distinct character backgrounds with as much care and cinematic flair as Dragon Age: Origins.

Even though the indoctrination theory was confirmed not to be written in by BioWare, so many people now choosing Control or Synthesis as their preferred ending and saying they don't even care if their choice was influenced by the Reapers (or outright believing them to be correct) kind of retroactively gives that theory its own ground to stand on independent of BioWare's intentions.

I, for one, will never be fooled by their honeyed words. Destroy always.
The Destroy ending of Mass Effect 3 is the only one that feels right to me.

- Synthesis is a creepy middle ground.

- Control feels like an authoritarian trick.

Destroy is also the only ending in which Shepard has a chance to survive. Don't be fooled by the Catalyst.

The crew? Assembled.
The dice? Ready!
What could possibly go wrong?

The first episode of our special Cyberpunk Pen & Paper session is here, with the one and only Mike Pondsmith from @RTalsorianGames running the game!

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

- 4,000 years before the films
- originally a devs personal tabletop
- one of the best plot twists in gaming
- possible origin of "simp"
- Jennifer Hale as Bastila
- Jeremy Soule soundtrack

Still the best Star Wars game ever made.

It's the very stupid "3/5 stars is good!" scale they have that puts them in their own little bubble that doesn't align with the actual industry's scale. 60s shut down studios. Five star systems work in movies but gaming uses a letter grade system so this happens
The fuck going on over there 🧐

I know it makes sense to focus on Mass Effect right now, but there is so much to mourn about Dragon Age as well.

An IP with a great fantasy foundation, unique lore, loveable characters, but I feel like it was never allowed to live up to it's full potential...and now it's dead.

Knights of the Old Republic REMAKE

- Saber CEO confirmed it's still alive
- development restarted in 2022
- Aspyr lost it due to a bad vertical slice
- rumored for 2028 but very uncertain

Star Wars is a universe built on hope, and this game still has a glimmer of it.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

- fight ancient evil.
- navigate political alliances.
- customize your own castle.
- discover the great secret of the elves.
- meet a god.

This is BioWare's best-selling game ever, a deserving GOTY winner, and my favorite game in the franchise.

Geoff Keighley deserves mad respect for a lot of things, including coming to the defense of the original Mass Effect and the gaming industry at large way back in 2008.

Fox News claimed that Mass Effect had full nudity and allowed players to engage in graphic sex. They also “no narrative substance.” Keighley clarified that there was no full nudity, it was an optional scene and that it was also less than 3 minutes long.

An apology was eventually issued for distributing misinformation.

Not only is Mass Effect 2 one of the greatest games ever made, it also has one of the most impressive lists of DLC content:

- "Lair of the Shadow Broker" reunited you with a more seasoned Liara and her new purpose in life.

- "Arrival" acts as a direct bridge to Mass Effect 3 pard's hardest decisions ever.

- "Overlord" confronted you with one of the greatest tragedies in modern gaming.

On top of all that, two additional companions and a handful of minor DLCs were added to the game as well. BioWare really used to spoil us.
