🚨 B.C. CONSERVATIVES WIN A MAJORITY GOVERNMENT

The Canadian Press decision desk is projecting the Conservatives will form the next government of British Columbia, with Lorne Doerkson set to become premier.

Elections BC’s initial count had Conservatives leading in 64 of 93 ridings with about 49% of the vote at the latest update. Results remain preliminary until the final count.

A major political shift in British Columbia.

The map just changed. 🇨🇦

$GOOGL has a US$513.9 billion Google Cloud backlog.

Impressive. But there’s a detail worth reading before sharing the growth chart:

Alphabet changed its backlog reporting in Q1 2026 to include contracts lasting one year or less.

That broadens what gets counted.

My take: compare the same definition across periods before treating every increase as new demand.

Then watch how those commitments convert into revenue, margins and cash.

A backlog is future business to deliver.

It isn’t money already earned. 🇨🇦

🇨🇦 Canada’s household saving rate reached 3.7% in Q2. Income growth included a one-time GST/HST top-up.

A better quarter isn’t necessarily a lasting improvement. Families budgeting ahead need to separate repeat income from temporary cash.

My favourite definition of financial progress:

An unexpected bill arrives, and you pay it without borrowing or losing sleep.

It won’t get the attention a luxury car gets.

But having money that nobody can see can improve your life in ways everybody can’t see either. 🇨🇦

🇨🇦 Buying the Nasdaq through $XQQ.TO includes a decision about the loonie.

XQQ hedges currency exposure to CAD.

Why care?

Hypothetically, U.S. stocks rise 10%, but the U.S. dollar falls 10% against CAD.

An unhedged Canadian investor ends up DOWN 1%, before costs.

The currency moves multiply. They don’t simply cancel.

My take: choose your currency exposure deliberately.

Getting the companies right can still produce a disappointing return in the dollars you actually spend.

🇨🇦 Canada’s Big Six banks averaged a 13.5% core capital ratio in June.

Strong banks don’t automatically mean comfortable borrowers. A household can keep its mortgage current by cutting spending elsewhere.

🇨🇦 This is the kind of accounting trick that makes governments look healthier than households feel.

Call it a “loan” and it sits on the balance sheet as an asset.

But taxpayers still supplied the capital, taxpayers still carry the risk, and taxpayers wear the loss if the asset underperforms.

The deficit can ignore the cheque. Reality cannot.

A stock you bought falls 30%.

One useful question:

“If I had the money in cash today, would I buy this business at this price?”

Your original purchase price matters for calculating your result.

It cannot tell you whether the investment still makes sense.

The company doesn’t know what you paid. 🇨🇦

🇨🇦 Imagine buying a rental property and checking its resale value every morning.

By Wednesday, you’d be exhausted.

Yet people buy shares in a business they want to own for ten years and check the price before breakfast.

Being able to check constantly doesn’t mean the business changes constantly. 🇨🇦

Before buying another ETF, look at what’s inside the ones you already own.

Five funds holding the same companies can give you five lines on your statement and one very concentrated bet.

Count the businesses you own.

The number of fund logos tells you very little. 🇨🇦

Canadians will drive across town to save $15 on groceries.

Then renew their mortgage with the first offer from their bank because switching sounds inconvenient.

I understand it. Groceries are easy to compare. Mortgages come with paperwork.

But the bigger the bill, the more expensive convenience can become. 🇨🇦

🇺🇸 $MAGS quietly makes a decision most investors never write down:

At each quarterly rebalance, Tesla deserves the same allocation as Microsoft.

Apple deserves the same as Nvidia.

That’s what equal weighting means.

My take: buying the seven companies is only half the decision. How you divide the money matters too.

If your conviction differs across those businesses, an equal-weight ETF may allocate your money very differently from your own investment thesis.

Convenience comes with a portfolio decision attached. 🇨🇦

🇨🇦 $CSU.TO’s headline growth and underlying growth tell different stories.

Constellation Software’s Q2 2026 revenue rose 17%.

Organic growth after currency adjustments? Just 1%.

Operating cash flow still increased 10% to US$477 million.

My take: the investment case depends heavily on management buying businesses at attractive prices and improving their cash generation.

Watch acquisition returns and organic growth together.

Buying more revenue is straightforward.

Making each acquisition earn its purchase price is where shareholders win.

$META’s AI story has a receipt: the advertiser’s bill.🇺🇸

Q3 ad impressions rose 10%.
Average price per ad rose 14%.
Revenue rose 26%.

My take: watch whether advertisers keep accepting higher prices because the results justify them.

Those numbers alone don’t prove AI caused the improvement.

But they give investors something concrete to test.

Better targeting should improve advertisers’ returns, giving them a reason to spend more.

The next test: can that growth outrun Meta’s enormous infrastructure bill? 🇨🇦

$AVGO can grow its AI business without ever entering your Mag 7 ETF.

$MAGS targets seven specific companies.

$QQQM tracks the Nasdaq-100.

Those are different investment decisions.

My take: “I’m bullish on AI” isn’t enough to choose between them.

Do you want today’s seven famous names, or exposure determined by a broader index?

The next major AI winner doesn’t need to belong to the club you bought. 🇨🇦

🇨🇦About 85% of Canada’s natural gas export volume went to the U.S. in July.

Overseas sales are growing, but diversification is still a work in progress. Canadian producers remain heavily exposed to a slowdown in U.S. demand.

Canada’s national sport is now paying twice. 🇨🇦

Taxes for healthcare. Then a private appointment.

Taxes for safety. Then cameras and security.

Taxes for infrastructure. Then repairs after the pothole.

Ottawa calls it resilience.

Your bank calls it insufficient funds.

🚨🇨🇦 Higher rates won’t produce more oil or remove a tariff.

They can squeeze spending enough to stop those costs spreading into broader inflation.

If a hike comes, indebted households get squeezed again.

Their mortgage payment is the policy tool.

Their grocery bill is still their problem. 🇨🇦
Bank Of Canada RAISING October 28th? Sure Looks Like It

Canada's Economy is pretty weak: Job Losses, low GDP, Trade War, Tariffs.....

Why the Fuck RAISE INTEREST RATES?

2 Reasons

- The BoC doesn't care about Canadians at all
- Inflation may take off

Welcome to higher rates

🇨🇦 Canadian investors: $XQQ.TO provides Nasdaq-100 exposure with a currency hedge to CAD.

The hedge targets currency movements.

It does nothing to stop the underlying stocks from falling.

Before choosing a Nasdaq ETF, decide whether you want currency exposure alongside the companies.

“Trades in Canadian dollars” and “currency hedged” mean different things. 🇨🇦

$TSM deserves a place in the AI conversation even though its U.S. 🇺🇸shares trade on the NYSE.

Q3 2026:
Gross margin: 66.4%.
Operating margin: 58.7%.
Advanced nodes: 79% of wafer revenue.

My take: competition between chip designers can still support demand for advanced se figures cover the whole business. They aren’t an AI revenue breakdown.

Watch manufacturing economics alongside the companies designing the chips. 🇨🇦
