"300 days into the year 2026, and 311 unicorns have been minted so far."
Great post, wild times we're in.
Great post, wild times we're in.
The people of Silicon Valley are unwell.
If you work at a frontier lab or decacorn, you’ve got it bad. You haven’t seen your kids, your girlfriend’s annoyed, invites from friends to hang out are waning, even weddings are on hold. This is the time to make your mark and make your money, after all.
If you’re building a startup that’s trying to compete with or be one of these companies, you’ve got it bad. Maybe you passed up a job offer at one a couple years back, which means you left $100M on the table, you fucking idiot. Being an underdog isn't as fun as you thought.
If you’re working on a pre-AI startup, you’ve got it bad. Not too long ago you were the belle of the ball, but now your 30% year-on-year growth doesn’t feel like growth at all. It feels like death.
"Too many of my friends are spiraling," Brie Wolfson writes. "I don’t know how we’re supposed to live and work like this."
It’s all too much, too fast. Too much money, too much growth, too much power, too much change. Every month, a new frontier model is released. Every day, a new unicorn is minted. Seriously. 300 days into the year 2026, and 311 unicorns have been minted so far.
So what’s left for the sane ones? Brie went looking for teams playing a different game. She found one in Ottawa: a search infrastructure company that many of the AI darlings rely on.
It's growing fast, and its people are well.

I made a big fix to our AI Hedge Fund.
Before, every agent was graded on the next day's return.
This made sense for a Momentum agent, but it made the Buffett agent look wrong a lot.
Now, each agent picks the time horizon that fits its style and gets graded on that.
Next, ith the best track records more weight.

Big part of success is finding things you love and going after them relentlessly, every day.

Economic output per person is one of my favorite stats.
I am extremely bullish on humanity’s ability to create huge gains with AI.

We now track 500+ KPIs on @findatasets.
This includes data like Starlink subscriptions from $SPCX or Palantir's ARR.
Companies bury these in messy text like press releases and earnings calls.
You get them as clean data right after companies report, across 70+ sectors.

And traffic is flowing in!
I think we’re one of the first (only?) stock market APIs to support x402.
Future is bright and I’m pumped to build it.

AI Hedge Fund now prices in trading costs.
Just like a real fund does.
How it works:
1 • you buy a stock
2 • you pay a spread
3 • you pay a commission
Makes our backtests more honest.

x402 is now live on @findatasets.
Your agent can now pull stock market data without an API key and pay per request.
No subscriptions. No sales calls. No BS.

I’m impressed with how well Jev reranks financial documents in agentic search.
A single query costs $0.001 and ~300 ms.
It hit MRR of 0.92 and matched or beat every other reranker we tested.

Prediction markets are top 3 use case for this
We wanted these datasets to be as real-time as possible and are pretty damn close today.

AI Hedge Fund now trades intraday.
You can let it check the market every second.
How it works:
1 • build your fund
2 • set intraday cadence
3 • let it rip
And it runs throughout the day.
