The attachment between the tab and the page was literally the key defining characteristic of that UI element. It visually grouped the tab header with the page it controlled. The sloped edges of the tab also aided in differentiating foreground vs. background tabs.
So they took thing is a floating pill.

Our own website header on usgraphics.com is part of this problem, this is bad design. The floaters have no attachment points and the only indicator as to which page is active is the red dot which is insufficient. Need to fix it.

It's hard to argue that this is good UI where everything is a fucking floating pill, even the thumb in the scroll bar. Youtube website itself is another set of floating pills.

I kind of like business park aesthetics. It seems to be the least celebrated and there is a sense of no-bullshitness about it. Even the way they are boring is very boring — their boringness is bog standard.

I personally suck at writing, but I wish to improve. I want high precision English in the technical domain, ASD-STE100 relies on overloading terms and reduced vocabulary for expediency and broad applicability; but its opposite doesn't exist, i.e. sufficiently complex but not more. Use full breadth of English vocabulary for precise meaning when the context requires it. Referring to the dictionary as a feature, not a bug. That tradeoff may not be worth it in aviation context such as checklists for obvious reasons, but it would be appropriate in other contexts where there is little urgency and precision is paramount.
