iOS 27.2 can't come soon enough – there are so, so many UIKit/SwiftUI bugs for Duo right now 🫠

iOS developers: Please for the love of god stop making your own custom tab views, not least they because they all freaking suck on iPhone Duo. Shopify, Facebook, Google, Airbnb, YouTube, and more are all trying, and none of them are succeeding 🤷‍♂️

Some apps that are great on iPhone Duo: PocketShelf, Meshing, Auralog, Nihongo, Pestle, Netflix, Nunch, CARROT Weather, Crunchyroll, Blackbox, Crouton, and Things – great work, folks!

Some apps that are good: Facebook (only niggle: their silly custom tab view, otherwise color me impressed!), Fantastical (a bit too much wasted space?), and Dark Noise.

And some that suck that really shouldn't: Amex, YouTube, Gmail, Reddit, TikTok, and more. More work to do ⏳

Well, using apps that haven't been updated for at least Xcode 27.0 is pretty obnoxious. Some of Apple's choices in first-party apps are also not ideal, including Safari – they need to make the address bar go somewhere else, because it eats too much space right now.

When apps are updated, they mostly look excellent – PCalc has never looked better, for example. Others, not so much. (Airbnb 🫠) And I get it: optimizing for this thing is the hardest iOS work I've ever had to do. Make it work takes minutes. Making it great requires work.

A key problem is various choices Apple has made around alignment of controls, including ensuring bottom bars always align with the bottom of the right-hand toolbar. So here, there's a sizable chunk of wasted space at the bottom, and vertical space is really premium now.

eSIM transfer from old phone to new failed, then online identity verification failed because – for whatever reason – both the inner and outer cameras were 90 degrees off, so it was trying to verify my photo against my rotated head 🤷‍♂️

My M3 Max MacBook Pro is almost three years old, and is really struggling with local AI and the increased load of my work. I really hope the new MacBooks that are coming provide a significant spec bump – and also are in my price range! 🫠
