At St. Petersburg Collegiate North Pinellas, an advisor checks every student's college grades daily. Last year 98.6% of college courses ended with a C or better.

Most written feedback gets one glance: good grade or bad grade, then into the backpack.

Science teacher Noah Hurlburt moved the feedback to his students. A gallery walk before final presentations, three prompts (Praise, Question, Level Up), and class time to revise.

What would your students need before their feedback goes past "Good job!"?

Franklin Elementary shares their story! Great read! @schoolrubric #bebold @SixthEssential
Franklin Elementary in Moline, IL: students meeting reading growth targets went from 39% to 72% in four years, and from 48% to 84% in math. Office referrals fell from 184 to 43.

How @MolineCVSchools' Franklin does it (h/t @thornell5):

Feedback only works when the person receiving it can act on it. Rubrics used as a feedback tool, not just an evaluation tool, are one of the quickest ways to get there. Good pointers from @thornell5 for any leadership team.
Feedback is easy to talk about and hard to do well. @thornell5 points school leaders to two strong resources, including rubrics used as tools for feedback rather than just evaluation. Bookmark-worthy.

Great way to spend a morning!
Two SchoolRubric authors, one admin team. @thornell5 signed copies of Sixth Essential (co-written with @bprybil) for principal @smilestacymiles and her team. Stacy's own book on building a strong admin team is coming soon.

A busy school is not always a focused school. The real question is whether today’s work is actually moving the team closer to its most important outcome. #Educentric #BoldSchools

I hear lots of discussion about feedback. It’s not as easy as it sounds. Two great resources right here. Thank you @jaymctighe #bebold
Here are two articles on providing FEEDBACK to students. One is a classic from Grant Wiggins. The other offers ideas for using rubrics as tools for feedback, not just evaluation. ascd.org/el/articles/se… and jaymctighe.com/wp-content/upl…

During classroom visits, I always asked myself one question: "Would I want my child in this classroom?" If the answer was no, I immediately thought about what would have to change for my answer to become yes. It's a good starting point for principals and central office staff.

My dad had a line he repeated my whole childhood: "You should never be outworked or out-prepared."

There will always be people smarter than you and more talented than you.

But you control the effort and the prep.

Lot to learn here from my friend Ryan!
Years of fun, plenty of wrecks, and a few scars to show for it. 😂

At 50, I’m glad I didn’t wait until I was good at something to enjoy it.

Some of my favorite memories started with “Sure, I’ll try.”

Fun was always the whole point.
