It's also found in the saliva of some ticks. When a tick bites, it can transfer alpha-gal from its saliva into a person’s blood. AGS symptoms can include mild to severe allergic reactions about 2-6 hours after a person consumes an alpha-gal containing product.

As the lone star ticks geographic spread increases, so too will the cases of Alpha-gal syndrome “mammal meat allergy”.
New CDC map highlights dramatic expansion of lone star tick's range. Wherever lone star ticks are established, they tend to outcompete and replace black-legged ticks. This is going to change the face of tick-borne disease in North America.
