Thailand, Malaysia Open New Sadao–Bukit Kayu Hitam Border Link
Thailand and Malaysia on Friday officially opened a road linking Thailand’s new Sadao customs checkpoint with Malaysia’s Bukit Kayu Hitam checkpoint, with traffic set to begin on July 11.
Prime Minister Anutin ian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim jointly opened the link, which is expected to reduce congestion, waiting times and logistics costs at one of the two countries’ main border trade routes.
The Thai government said more than 80% of Thai-Malaysian border trade passes through Sadao. The two countries aim to increase bilateral trade to US$30 billion.
Thailand and Malaysia also agreed to accelerate border links between Songkhla and Kedah, Satun and Perlis, and Narathiwat and Kelantan, while improving customs and immigration procedures.
