I made things awkward at a family dinner because I told my niece she didn’t have to hug me.
Apparently that was disrespectful.
My sister brought her 6-year-old daughter over for Sunday dinner.
When they were leaving, my sister said:
“Go give Aunt Monika a hug!”
My niece shook her head.
So I smiled and said:
“That’s okay, sweetheart. You don’t have to.”
My sister immediately looked annoyed.
“Don’t tell her that. We’re teaching her manners.”
I said:
