SVUH is experiencing exceptionally high demand for emergency care.

If your condition is not an emergency, please consider your GP, GP out-of-hours service or a local minor injury unit.

If you need emergency care, please don't delay.

We had the most wonderful weekend at #Freyer2026 at the @uniofgalway, a gathering of leading Surgeons, Educators, Innovators, Healthcare Leaders & Industry Partners.

We were honoured to welcome @ShafiAhmed5, a world-renowned Surgeon, Educator and Healthcare Innovator. His pionhealth, virtual reality and medical education continues to shape the future of surgical training and new approaches to lifelong surgical learning.

Professor Ahmed launched Surgeon AI, the first global AI surgical training platform, which was unveiled at the University of Galway. Designed to support Surgeons throughout their professional journey, from medical school and examinations through surgical training and independent consultant practice, Surgeon AI has the potential to transform how Surgeons are trained, assessed and supported throughout their careers.

We were delighted to welcome @HeneghanHelen, Consultant Bariatric and General Surgeon at @svuh & Professor of Surgery at @ucddublin, who delivered the State of the Art Lecture. Professor Heneghan’s lecture offered invaluable insights for Surgeons and Surgical Trainees aiming to translate the latest advances in bariatric surgery into consistent, effective and personalised clinical care.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to such an exceptional Sir Peter Freyer Surgical Symposium, bringing together research, education, collaboration and innovation, highlighting the exciting advances shaping the future of surgery.
