First drive test for MARS, my Meshtastic range tester. Two Raspberry Pi stations, a Heltec V3 riding in the van.
14 probes sent, 9 fully acknowledged. Solid two-way contact inside 100 m, spotty out to 250 m, and the base still decoded pings at -107 dBm on the far side of the RS #Testing #LoRa

Spotted on @hackaday : a Meshtastic pet tracker collar. Custom board, ESP32-S3 with LoRa and GPS, magnetic charging, and a location fix every 30 seconds in high power mode. No subscription, no cell network. That is how a tracker should be built.

Working on Ground Control tonight, the base Pi for my MARS rig, Meshtastic Automated Range System.
Chrony has the GPS time at +16 ms, jitter around 42 ms. An offline test is running right now to make sure it keeps good time on GPS alone, since there's no internet where this rig ers charts, too. Made a test chart with matplotlib. Plain, but it worked.
Still ahead tonight: flip the networking so it runs its own WiFi access point, then start on the actual test code.
Major Tom, the mobile Pi, comes after that.

Took the SenseCAP T1000-E as my carry today. These are easy to get running on Meshtastic and the range is solid. Battery already in it, decent case, and you can be talking on the mesh in a few minutes.
