Remind me to write a post about build tool maximalists...

"CI is already a solved problem. Just force 100% of all developers to throw away their native toolchains and use my favorite build tool instead. Shoot those who refuse. And voila, problem solved!"

I'm losing count of the "Github Actions but faster and cheaper" startups.

I know a race to the bottom when I see one...

There couldn’t have been a better time for @dagger_io to release 1.0 and its cloud product. CI systems are either not able to keep up or so insanely expensive they aren’t affordable. Dagger is completely vertically integrated, and doesn’t charge for idle compute or repeat work, so it is dramatically faster and cheaper.

Well done, @solomonstre and team.

I am looking for a new social media intern.
@lox @ibuildthecloud Lachlan I thought we agreed we were beefing for the views.

You have to say something mean, like: "for a dagger, your not too sharp!"

And then I say "oh is that an Australian joke"

And then we improvise from there.

@solomonstre The yaml is just the tip of a long list of problems. Reproducibility, provenance, caching, testing and flexibility. I’ve been a dagger user since the earliest incarnations and it’s just got better and better, both in DX and capability, thank you!

I migrated to dagger the moment 1.0 dropped. I don't even care if its early access, it has been a game changer in development.
How does Dagger compare to Blacksmith?

Why migrate your Github Actions YAML when you can just... delete it?

Most of your CI scripts just duplicate native toolchain configuration anyway. The scripts start drifting as soon as you write them.

What if your CI were smart enough to read the native config directly? 🤔

@solomonstrethats exactly the case , very custum tuning ci tailored for project ( socping , dependency cache, nx , and many more) but to be fair dagger really impressed me , because it took me weeks to do the right setup. Where dagger single shot almost identical speed, will do more testing on different projects later. Thanks for the reaction.

Moving from GitHub Actions to Dagger for local CI, tests, linting, and code quality checks. Can't afford burning through 3,000 minutes in just 20 days.

Dagger is very cool, and the test-native CI is such a good idea!

Congrats @dagger_io team on the 1.0!
"When you peel off the layers of proprietary YAML and jargon, CI today boils down to running shell scripts on a server, and reading the logs. With such a primitive execution and data model, waste is everywhere, and it gets worse as you scale"

I've been following and testing Dagger from day one (years ago 👴).
I can confidently say that 1.0 is the real deal, and I'm lucky that it's right on time to be a core piece of my new startup's coding factory.
Do yourself a favor, time to switch to third-generation CI! 🔥🤖🔥
