Living in the general-purpose automation era (better term than agi/si) will increasingly put the Q "whatβre truly useful products/services to create" on a collision course with "whatβs a truly purposeful, fulfilling life". The latter will be unraveled by the former in real time & as it happens the boundaries (in discourse and in practice) between politics, governance, technology, privacy, spirituality, ethics, and public health will also slowly dissolve, as weβre already starting to see.
Basically donβt think the acceleration of general-purpose automation across software and eventually hardware is agi in any real autonomous entity/runaway consciousness sense (despite these people loving to use words like mind/descendent/understanding etc), regardless, I do think itβll usher in a world of unprecedented existentialist ambiguity and opportunity/forcing function to define new sets of values.

Couldnβt agree more. Convinced faceid made screentime worse too. Simple thing of unlocking a phone to do a quick task while itβs on a desk/couch armchair etc became no longer possible without moving your whole head towards it or having to physically pick it upβgetting u pulled in
Face ID is very un Apple like. It barely works when youβre looking away or have sunglasses on. Glad Touch ID is returning it was always better

Cool stuff esp for yappers but looks slower and more stressful to me than just typing in google flights (w occasional side ai for commute times/hotel options etc).
Maybe im just a boomer but it is funny we keep circling on flights/restaurant res as these big problems to solve..

iphone duo height (117.8mm) in half = exact width of the iphone 4, interesting.
that'd be smaller than an iphone mini when closed, 80% of the screen space of an iphone pro when open.

Most donβt realize that this (more than wobbly glowy glass buttons) is actually skeuomorphism at its finest

Technosocialism all aboard
Glad to see renewed attention on open-weight models. We made this case at the @FTC in 2024: open weights let startups and businesses build and innovate without depending on the whims of a few gatekeepers.
More openness in model offerings is a good start, but parts of the AI ed. That's why we also need robust competition where possible and clear rules banning conflicts and market power abuse for layers like chips, cloud infrastructure, and the platforms through which models are distributed.
