For those who know Sentry, you know we’ve been giving back to Open Source maintainers since our early days.

This year, we increased our budget from $750,000 to $1,000,000.

Here’s where it went 🧵

First of all, why did we do this?

Open Source is the ultimate cheat code: shared libraries, frameworks, and tools with years of community work behind them.

Sentry benefits every day. Companies that use it should support the people who build and maintain it.

We're also not alone in thinking this way — this month marks the 2nd anniversary of the @ThePledge 🤝

37 member companies have now paid $8,421,535 to maintainers and foundations.

We started it because we don’t believe in freeloading.

This year, we sent $495,000 to @thanks_dev for them to distribute to hundreds of maintainers whose packages we use.

It scans your dependency tree and handles payments, so there’s no excuse not to pay maintainers.

And of course, we’re supporting Open Source foundations, too!

Including $60,000 donated to @ThePSF for their continued work to uphold the Python community
