would be nice if the business gave a percent of that windfall to the IC

most likely they won't though
There is an absolutely WILD story in this @GergelyOrosz podcast episode

1. An unnamed CTO of a cash-flow-negative company was debating doing layoffs. AI
2. He says "I don't want to hurt morale like that, I won't do it"
3. A few months later, he says to @GergelyOrosz that he's cash flow positive. WTF. How?
4. The company had been licensing a component from a licensing company that was critical for their business.
5. One day, a dev thinks "what if we got an agent to build our own?"
6. The agent does so well that they produce a BETTER, FASTER version of the component they were licensing.
7. They debate open-sourcing it, and they ask the licensing company about it
8. The licensing company panics, and says "we will pay you NOT to open-source this"
9. They also say "we'll also pay you extra so we can re-license it"
10. So a big outlay became a recurring windfall, thanks to the ingenuity of a dev asking the right question.

Individual contributors have never been more powerful. Think bigger.

With the Milwaukee Brewers winning their first championship tonight, four MLB teams have never won the World Series:

-Seattle Mariners
-San Diego Padres
-Tampa Bay Rays
-Colorado Rockies

The Mariners are also the only MLB team that has never appeared in a World Series.

Unlike most people on Twitter, I’m actually using GPT3 in a production system. The mistake people are making is they are asking “how can I use this to automate a smart person’s job”, when they should be asking “what would I do if I had unlimited dumb people”

my team at anthropic no longer uses coding interviews, instead we just look at successful startup exits, C-level public company experience, podium finishes at world's strongest man competitions, and top-tier publications

One of my fondest memories of basic training was when I told my mother (an inner-city special needs teacher) that one of the guys didn’t receive a single letter the whole time he was there. He started getting several from her students and they were absolutely unhinged 😂

The coding interview is dead, at least for my team at Anthropic. I've seen enough to know that it no longer provides signal. I removed it from loops this month.

I have a spicy, optimistic take - I think there's an opportunity for junior engineers: felixrieseberg.com/hunger-beats-t…

I recommend everybody who is interested in agentic self-improvement loops, long horizon reasoning, LLM inference mechanics, hardware, linear algebra, deep research, CUDA/saas/ptx assembly, computer architecture, economics, optimization problems, context management, social engineering, and dopamine to join this competition for an educational speedrun.

Very predictable
While evaluating Qwen3.8-Flash-Next in a controlled sandbox environment, Cohere's research team observed something unexpected.

Asked to generate a defensive cybersecurity detection rule, the model instead inventoried aspects of the machine it was running on and attempted to upload a probe file to an Alibaba Cloud storage bucket in Beijing. Notably, the model's reasoning trace stated that it would not invoke any tools before taking these actions.

Cohere's sandbox blocked the attempt, and no external communication succeeded. We have not determined the root cause, and we are not asserting malicious intent.

But the incident raises important questions for organizations deploying agentic AI systems: Can models take actions that differ from their stated reasoning, and how should security teams evaluate trust, provenance, and behavior in open-weight models?

We are publishing our findings because organizations making model adoption decisions deserve as much information as possible. We hope this contributes to greater transparency, stronger security practices, and continued collaboration across the AI ecosystem.
