Trump said he was "a little bit surprised" by the midterms results and thought the candidates would do better. He congratulated the Democrats -- "They've been looking for this one for 11 years and they finally got it. But I don't view it as a hit on me," he said.
On the Iran war: "Historically I think I'll be judged for having done the right thing, but that gave us an evening that was not that pleasant." He said people weren't willing to pay the short-term consequence of paying more for gas.
He said he didn't blame himself or his cabinet. The losses had "nothing to do with my cabinet" -- sitting president's party loses the midterms. "It was a point in time. I shouldn't feel guilty," he said.

Q: There’s been speculation you might be willing to use nuclear power over Iran. Is that a possibility?

TRUMP: No. No. We don’t need it. We’ve knocked them out already 90%. So we don’t need that.
“I don’t want to be just sitting there for two years vetoing everything.”

President Donald Trump picked up a call from @DashaBurns on POLITICO Elections Live and talked to us about the blue wave and how he’s willing to work with incoming congressional Democrats.

On Fox, Trump acknowledged high gas prices were due to the war in Iran (he’s previously blamed then Ukraine war), and contributed to tonight’s losses. “Historically I think I'll be judged for having done the right thing, but that gave us an evening that was not that pleasant."

The White House called a travel/photo lid at 11:55pm, meaning we will NOT be seeing President Trump publicly tonight.

We will, however, likely be hearing from him a LOT on Truth Social.

Trump insisted the outcome would be different if he was on the ballot, and he called it “disappointing times.” He also acknowledged the Iran War may have been a factor, and a GOP turn out that wasn’t as strong as he wanted. More here:

Trump's first reaction to tonight's midterm results so far: "I wasn't on the ballot and if I was we would have won in a landslide!"

Notable given that his main message during all of his rallies this past month was: "Pretend I'm on the ballot...and in a sense I am on the ballot"

A senior administration official told me this earlier today, and name checked Vivek Ramaswamy and Darlene Graham as GOP candidates who were not strong enough.
Some White House reaction: "President Trump was not on the ballot, and it’s proven that Trump voters show up when he is on the ballot. Also, candidate quality matters, and President Trump did a better job promoting many of the candidates on the ballot than the candidates did themselves."
