Happy tax day: Here's a form which calculates an individual’s “income tax body count”, or the total number of conflict-related deaths they have caused through their income tax contributions to the U.S. government.

Deaths from conflicts involving the U.S. military are totaled for every year between 2001 and 2025. Each conflict has an estimated minimum and maximum death total based on available data. Maximum death estimates include an estimate of indirect as well as direct deaths.

An individual’s death contribution is calculated by multiplying their tax contribution by a yearly deaths/dollar ratio (total deaths / defense department inlays from income tax).

Excited to announce I have a new job! I've just joined the faculty at @parsonsdesign as their new (and only???) Assistant Professor of Synthetic Media and Algorithmic Justice.

Really happy to be officially back in NYC.

I think some people are missing the idea that you can/should try the site on photos *not* of yourself.

I downloaded around 10,000 publicly available images of the NYPD and used them to train a facial recognition system.

Use it to reveal what NYPD cop you most resemble according to the magic of machine learning. Find the cop lurking deep within you...

The saddest cops in New York, according to automated facial sentiment analysis. (They don't look that sad to me...)

Interestingly some people seem to think that I am a cop? Or that the cops made the website? Anyway, I’m not, and they didn’t, but it's nice to see so much disgust for cop tech…

As part of the research for the piece we scraped details about every carbon offset scheme from the major voluntary offset registries, and stuck them up at: offsetarchive.labr.io
