Everybody is in such a hurry, they want digital art to be recognized but only the right digital art, they want sophisticated collectors but it’s been only a few years since many participants have been exposed. These things take time to mature. Patience is needed.

In theory, sure continuing to raise the bid should at some point be considered unprofitable for the bots & they should stop. However, w/o knowing where that number is, bots can continue raising the bid until they demoralize any legitimate bids & then drop the bid back down 1/4

Furthermore, it is so well known now about these dynamics of bots incrementally overbidding that many buyers are already demoralized and don’t even bid from the jump. Therefore further suppressing the actual bid. 3/4

Idk what the solution is but this kind of failure to understand the issues of actual users is frustrating. No one that uses opensea for low liquidity art (which let’s face it is most rn) could come to the takeaway that those sellers are functioning to provide the best bids. 4/4

Marfa weekend is special, if you have not been but have been in this space then you owe it to yourself to go at least once. Below are 2 tweets from folks that were going for the first time. Meeting like minded folks in such a 1 of a kind town can’t be beat. Well worth the effort.

This is a piece I really love, it has this really wonderful movement to it. It is like fall leaves blown fast by a gust of wind in a forest.

jfc, just a brutal post 😂😂
Today, with extreme honor and gratitude, I’m announcing that I will be leaving these in a small box outside The Centre Pompidou

A new highly credible significance can be inscribed onto these unrecognized contemporary cultural icons, which mutually reinforces the Pompidou’s timeless dignity

this new anon (who clearly knows the space and has been around) comes in makes a big splash buying lots of things, burning others and says “see that other guy is the powerful collector”…not me, down with gatekeepers!, drop your art, I’m buying🤑. You folks are too easily bought.
We came here to free art from gatekeepers. Instead, we’ve built a world where artists chase powerful collectors for attention, and even discovery comes with a casino sponsor. Same old power structure. Just a new face.

Thoughts, @CozomoMedici? 💀

the world has become so comfortable with the use of the internet that it is impossible to properly explain the level of accelerating threat to normal folks in my life without looking like a crazy person. Exponential changes in threats are just impossible for normal folks to grok.
So basically, today PHP got two critical bugs that let anyone run code on your server without even logging in, which is bad, and then the details leaked before the patch was even out, which is worse, and it works on WordPress and MediaWiki and Magento and Joomla and Laravel, and Censys says like 1.5 million servers are running a version with no fix, so the NSA was like "take your system offline," and the FBI was like "take your system offline," and CISA and the UK and CERT-EU were all like "take your system offline," and then the Prime Minister of Japan, the actual Prime Minister, posted at 5:55 in the morning telling 48.8 million people to take their system offline, so everyone took their system offline, like the Dutch cybersecurity agency took its own website offline, and the Dutch parliament went offline, and the Port of Rotterdam went offline, and Finland and France and Denmark started pulling government sites, and Wikipedia went down, and Archive.org went down, and Asana and GOG and Something Awful went down, and the University of Vienna's webmail went down for some reason, and that's just PHP. Because GitLab also dropped a CVSS 10.0, which is the highest score they give out, for a bug that's been there since 2014, so that's every self-hosted GitLab for twelve years, and then LiteLLM 1.107.0 got hijacked and shipped a credential stealer and a remote access trojan in every single wheel and the Docker images, including latest, and you didn't even have to import it, just installing it was enough, and it's the second time this year, and then Railway paused every deployment on the entire platform because someone got into the environment variables, so now everyone has to rotate every secret they've ever stored there, and TiDB Cloud said someone was walking around inside with stolen credentials for basically a month and an extortion group says they took 10.6 terabytes, and Zeabur got breached for the second time in two months and is just shutting down, like the whole company, and Node.js patched remote code execution and a TLS bypass, and CISA says Plex is being actively exploited, and someone took over 300 Tor exit relays to steal SSH passwords, and SafePay ransomware has hit over 600 critical infrastructure orgs, and India's biggest bank filed a data loss incident, and Japan has been in an official state of emergency in cyberspace since October 9, which honestly explains the 5:55 AM post. Oh, and eMudhra, a certificate authority that's issued over 60 million certificates, whose entire job is proving websites are who they say they are, was supposed to be using private keys that are random numbers over a hundred digits long, and one of them was 4. Just 4. And the others were like 66 and 237. Anyway, it's Wednesday.

To be clear this is not meant to be hustle porn or to reinforce the trope of the tormented artist. Rather, it is simply a fact that sometimes your initial idea is not your best and it is with time, contemplation and real work that you can get at something fully formed & worthy.

Relatedly, I think the manifestation of an idea to fully formed art may be getting too easy. That is, constraints and struggle lead to interesting art that may be lost because an easier path is possible with AI assistance.
I’m seeing the beginning of some very talented artists getting a kind of machine intelligence blindness. I’m watching the quality of their work atrophy. Take a minute to look at the work that you were making three years ago and now. Make sure that the tools you’re now building aren’t accidentally turning your aesthetics, and even your concepts, to mush.

as I’ve gotten older I often find myself saddened w/ the increased # of deceased singular voices (writers, filmmakers & musicians) whom I don’t get new content from that can speak to now. “I think to myself, what would [xxx] think about this?” & truth is we will never know. sigh.
