There's a giant gap between the qualitiative fears and quantitative reality.

curvesma.sh is an open competition to use AI cryptanalysis to attack explicit elliptic curves.

It has been live for almost two weeks, has received >2,000 submissions. The only progress vs pre-AI algoirthms is a variant of Cheon's algorithm that cuts security by ~1 bit.

AI labs aren't talking about breaking classical cryptography - I think it's because they can't break it!

Noir 1.0 is huge for on-chain / off-chain zero-knowledge (ZK) apps.

A new era begins.
Noir 1.0 is live.

A more reliable foundation for zero-knowledge applications: stable language, versioned toolchain, audited compiler.

Developers can build and iterate predictably as they create the next wave of privacy-preserving apps.

On the UK FCA’s DeFi guidance:

◈ In the UK, firms will need Sauron as Head of Compliance: an unblinking eye tracing wallets and fund flows, guarding TradFi gates. One does not simply connect wallet.

◈ Contrast the US; FinCEN binned its wallet & mixer surveillance proposals

I’m very excited to be launching curvesma.sh in collaboration with @yukonresearch

There has been concern that AI cryptanalysis could compromise elliptic curves and the lack of information coming out of AI labs is fuelling paranoia.

So let’s do this out in the open. An open challenge to see if we can find new methods to solve traditional elliptic curve hardness problems.
CurveSmash is live on @yukonresearch, in partnership with @eigenlabs.

An open challenge to find new attacks on the elliptic curves securing Bitcoin and Ethereum, designed by @Zac_Aztec.

Open to anyone. curvesma.sh

Revolut being down is a reminder that better financial UX isn’t enough

the future also needs self-custody, open rails and privacy

that’s what we’re building toward with @zk_money

This is exactly how privacy is going to be solved on Ethereum

@aztecnetwork is building toward this with @zk_money

Send and receive stablecoins privately by default, without exposing your transaction history

Ethereum L1 for security and settlement, L2 for private payments and dApps
⚡️ TODAY: Vitalik Buterin calls for “EIP-8288 maximalism,” saying heavy cryptography should be STARKed client-side and kept off Ethereum’s main chain so the network never needs to add another precompile.

Be like water, my friend.

Let your data flow freely, take whatever shape it needs, but never let it be trapped.

When water evaporates, it leaves no trace behind. When it rains, it returns without asking permission.

Be fluid, be private, leave no trace.

SDNY matches Etherscan and IP records and an ETH validator gets called in to be a witness.

Any vector attack point can and will be used against anyone in crypto.

Privacy ✊🏻
TLDR for crypto people:
> Be me
> Ran ETH validator while I lived on Wall Street
> Get call from federal prosecutor 3 years later
> HIM: "We're prosecuting hacker of Uranium Finance"
> HIM: "Need you to come testify that you ran a node for proof of Venue, its a law that requires crimes are trieted"
> Law doesn't make sense when applied to crypto, but whatever
> Me: "ok, how did you find me?"
> HIM: "Matching Etherscan and Verizon IP records"
> Fly to NYC
> Take oath and tesify
> HIM: "Cool thx bro"
> Post story on X
> Avi Eisenberg replies
> Avi's convictions were thrown out, not because he didn't do it, but because they couldn't prove it happened in the district he was tried
> Realize I'm the fix
> Realize everyone who runs a node is a witness to all crimes that occur on that blockchain

I am hyped to work at Aztec because I believe we are the only project that has a shot at fulfilling the original vision of crypto of expanding freedom in the world:

1. Bitcoin failed to do so because it's a volatile crypto asset unusable for payments. Pure SoV without payments is destined to deteriorate into just another asset to gamble on, not something that helps normal people.
2. Ethereum with stablecoins failed to do so because the UX without privacy is just impossible for normal people.

With Aztec and @zk_money we can:
1. Get perfect UX as you no longer need to think about what address to use to not dox yourself,
2. achieve user friendly and secure self-custody as we have account abstraction that makes implementation of schemes like passkeys-secured account contracts straightforward,
3. as an L2 we have an easy access to all the Ethereum's DeFi so we can easily support whichever unit of account and medium of account token users will desire.

All the other projects rely on an operator and there the forces of surveillance capitalism come into play. Not good.

Be a true sovereign individual and check @zk_money out!
Who can see your txns?

Zama: seen by operator
Starknet: seen by operator
NEAR: seen by operator
Venice: seen by operator
ZKSync: seen by operator
Canton: seen by operator
Tempo: seen by operator
Monad: seen by operator
…
Aztec: *not* seen by operator

It’s that simple

I’m happy to announce Aztec’s post-quantum roadmap. I can’t predict if or when quantum computers will happen, but we have been preparing since day 1 of designing Aztec.

Aztec today is highly quantum resistant and our protocol already defends against harvest-now-decrypt-later attacks. Migrating to a fully post-quantum system is a major challenge but one we are prepared for.

By the end of 2030, Aztec is going to be fully post-quantum.
