Hey @phpstorm, is it normal that `.idea` files are not worktree-isolated? Scenario: multiple worktrees in multiple windows, A changes platform.iml and php.xml (or others), you switch windows now B has modifications from A. This carries over to basically all worktrees you open the window from. Doesn't seem right to me. It causes test and source root assignments to get lost; probably also performance relevant when it comes to excludes.

@phpstorm Wort to add: it does not always happen instantly when switching windows. It's like there is a "flush" at some point.

Thank you for the update.
In most cases, settings are not being saved instantly. It either takes a short period of time or can be triggered with the "Save All" action.

As for the original issue, we still cannot reproduce it (but will keep trying).

And it would be great if you could submit a YouTrack bug report with attached `.idea` directories (from "main" project and a worktree) and, just in case, logs.

My @phpstorm has slowed down a lot recently.
When I open an already know project, it takes 5-7s from when I click "open in this windows" till it's loaded. I'm on new hardware.

Ryzen 9 9950X, 64 GB, Nvme disk, it shouldn't take more than a blink of an eye.

Suggestions?

Hello,
In some cases, project loading may take a few seconds more, for instance, when some rescans are performed.

However, it would be great if you could submit a support ticket or a YouTrack report with logs (Help > Collect Logs...), so we can have a look and check what we can do to make the project loading process faster.

Wow. @phpstorm kinda sucks now in comparison to AI and Visual Code. Cancelled my sub, and ya know... nothing lost. Passing of a generation I guess.

The IDE matters even more now that agents write the code.
You can debate us in the comments. 👇
An agent writes the code now. Do you still need an IDE?

You do if you want to understand and verify what the agent did.

wild 48 hours. still processing it tbh

so many marketing takeaways from this @jetbrains x nunonation event. will write them up properly on monday

we went viral (hacker news, x, etc) using a format most marketing teams wouldn't touch, precisely because it's so uncomfortable: raw, unfiltered, no script, just us

people don't fall in love with a brand. they fall in love with the humans behind it

thank you to everyone who shared, posted, dm'd, roasted us, all of it. means a lot

huge thanks to @brendt_gd, @matthieunapoli and @vanamerongen for being exceptionally awesome

@phpstorm WI-33248 shows solved in 2026.2. Seems not to work, does it need setup? Are there docs? Issue got no update. How does it work? Should everything but `src/` be ignored automatically? Just froze my machine coz Storm tried indexing 1M+ files from a local package `var/`.

The fix for WI-33248 covers one case: a package from a Composer path repository with symlink: true is no longer added to the include paths as vendor/<vendor>/<pkg>. PhpStorm indexes the package once, from its real directory. The fix needs no setup.
Since 2026.1 PhpStorm excludes only some Symfony cache directories in the project, such as var/cache and var/sessions by default, not the whole var/ directory.
To stop the indexing, the var/ directory should be marked as excluded. If PhpStorm still indexes it after that, open Settings > PHP > Include Path and review the list there. An include path entry overrides the exclusion.
If that does not help, please file a new issue at youtrack.jetbrains.com/newIssue?proje… and share more details about your setup, composer.json content, etc.

We connected IntelliJ IDEA’s code intelligence to Claude Code and Codex, then tested the setup with Netflix.

The first public results are out.

Typical efficiency gains: 20–30%.
Best code-navigation case: ~65%.

These results come from two real codebases. The efficiency metric averages token savings and time savings.

Correctness stayed stable or improved.

Here’s what we actually built.

The code engine behind IntelliJ IDEA ran headlessly, giving agents access to its capabilities through a CLI backed by a daemon.

LSP alone wasn’t sufficient.

Agents needed a convenient way to invoke the tools. The backend also needed to stay running and keep the project index warm between calls.

The idea is straightforward.

An IDE has already mapped the structure of your code and its dependencies — including what’s inside compiled libraries.

An agent can use that knowledge instead of spending time and tokens reconstructing it.

But the most interesting finding was which models benefited most.

The strongest models saw the biggest gains.

Especially at higher reasoning effort.

In these experiments, more capable models were also better at taking advantage of code intelligence.

My takeaway: better models and better tools aren’t competing bets.

You don’t have to choose between investing in model intelligence and giving agents better access to your codebase.

The two can reinforce each other.

Huge thanks to @pbakker and the Netflix team for working with us on this!
