Better decisions come from bridge building between lived experience and clinical science. I’m hoping the differences in perspective are where some of the most useful conversations happen.
We're 3 weeks away! I hope to see you there.

Who needs to be in the room at a lived experience focused event?
A big part of the process has been asking: whose perspective is missing, and who might challenge how everyone else is thinking?

I’ll be moderating this one and I’m really interested in what beneficial and harmful outcomes in people’s lives we may be missing when we focus mainly on whether symptom scores went up or down.

Hundreds of people are already registered for Tuesday’s conversation with Robin Carhart-Harris.
I’ve been wanting to ask him these questions for a while, especially what psychedelic research may miss when we look beyond the protocol.
Hope to see some of you there. Register 👇🏽

Can the same openness that enables psychedelic healing also create risk?
We’ll ask @RCarhartHarris about risk, long-term outcomes, lived experience, and what happens after treatment ends.
Plus his forthcoming book, How Psychedelics Work.

What's unique at this year's summit?
And we’re independently run, with no grants or corporate or pharmaceutical sponsorships, which gives us freedom to focus on the questions we think matter.

Why there are no traditional presentations at this year’s summit.
Instead, we have roundtables where people with different kinds of expertise can work through the questions that still don’t have clear answers.

I was interviewed by @dyslexacon_ from @CDNAffairs about psychedelic therapy. I shared why we need to think more about personal histories, identity, belongings, cultural context and what support people actually have around them especially when they come out on the other side.
Who gets overlooked when psychedelic therapy is discussed mainly through veterans and first responders?
New @CDNAffairs piece on access, different forms of trauma, and why care cannot be one-size-fits-all.
PLE founder @pedramdara contributed.

I hope to see you there on November 20–22.

We’ve done our best to get the right mix of lived experience, clinical, research, and policy perspectives around the same questions.

Researchers, clinicians, pharma sponsors and regulators are increasingly listening to lived experience voices. What matters next is making sure those voices actually shape decisions, not just appear to be included.
A lot can get missed when research is designed around people but not directly with them.
Lived experience brings a different kind of knowledge into the research process. It can show researchers where protocol assumptions don’t match lived reality.

Really proud to see this study officially recruiting. It has been a long time in the making and I’m grateful to @JRichardPhD and the University of Ottawa team for building it with lived experience involved from the start.

What will we actually be working on at the 2026 summit?
These aren’t conventional presentation sessions. Each roundtable is built around a defined question and practical outcome, with findings contributing to a post-summit paper.

Decisions that affect us should be made with us.
This isn’t about placing one form of expertise above another.
It means giving lived experience the same seat at the table as clinical, scientific, and policy expertise.
And real agency in decisions that affect patients.

Before psychedelic research, I built software. Then an MDMA-assisted therapy trial showed me that clinical research has a user-experience problem.
Lived experience should shape research, not just decorate it.

Before psychedelic research, Pedram Dara built software for startups. Then a 2018 clinical trial of MDMA-assisted therapy changed his career entirely.
In our newest Lived Experience Blog post, @pedramdara makes the case for why lived experience should help shape research, not just decorate it.
