Excited to share the findings from our collaborative work with the POP study. Isthmin-2 is the strongest first-trimester predictor of both preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction. nature.com/articles/s4159…

And one of our outputs as part of the In Utero programme was published today!

In our paper in Nature Medicine, we identify a placental protein that outperforms existing first-trimester biomarkers at predicting preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction, and for which there is evidence of direct involvement in the biology of failed placental invasion.

Led by Ruoyu Miao, Sungsam Gong, Ulla Sovio and Irving Aye, with Gordon Smith, Stephen Charnock-Jones and myself as joint senior authors.

It's been great to be a co-PI of the University of Cambridge team participating in the Wellcome Leap In Utero programme. The programme has changed my way of thinking about how I do research, and has generated some amazing results!

This video provides some background about what why. You'll notice that I stumble over the word "statistical" 🤦‍♂️

Congratulations to Dr Sungsam Gong and co-authors on their #OpenAccess paper on the prediction of complications of human pregnancy using cell-free RNAs, published in @NatureComms! @sunggong
Wow, 3 years since my last post. But a good reason for this: nature.com/articles/s4146… My key takehome: Occam’s Razor still holds in machine learning - the simplest explanation for a phenomenon is usually the best one.

Great to catch up with former members of my group (and of @MRC_BSU), @johan_vdmolen and @ltronneberg, during the 14th International Conference on Bayesian Nonparametrics at UCLA! Thanks to the organisers and to everyone who attended my talk on Federated Variational Inference for , which showcased work from @jackierao_ 's PhD.
