Learning about animals, comparing values, and transitive logic with @sage_teacher

My mind is being blown. I've seen her have several aha moments in the past 15 mins without any intervention from me.

It strikes me that claims like this are so deeply infected with category errors that they are not even wrong

And I don't claim to have an answer. But I will note that computability is a concept that obtains within a given field of "consciousness". Computability is precisely about what can be obtained without any interiority, by external form alone.

And intuitively the only thing that pontifications such as this does for me is to convince me further that God is real and I need to spend my life moving towards Him.
It really seems as though if consciousness is computable, there's no question we achieve immortality and we do so within about 20 years.

But if it's not, it's going to be so much harder.

Other than interfacing in some sense with "tech", agents are making this type of work obsolete, right now.

I thank God for the agentic platforms in this moment in my life. I've got 4 young kids and my hands are often tied up. But I can still think and talk. And that let's me get a lot done.

To the contrary of what many think of AI doing the thinking for you, I find the thinking is exactly what I'm here for and am able to provide.

Anyway, this is not work that would interest Andy, and I get that. But I am thankful for it.
It is startlingly difficult today to find a job that bears any resemblance to earlier forms of work.

I mean, what jobs now exist where a man does not have to deal with emails, telephone calls, texts, or paperwork? How about jobs with no "HR"?

Vanishingly few by what I see.

Always, I've maintained that I hold no opposition to LABOR whatsoever... in fact, I rather enjoy physical labor.

I am simply opposed to the modern idea of a "job," as so much of what they involve now involves humiliating degrees of tech, instant availability via telephone, surveillance, chastisement from "HR," idiotic paperwork, bureaucracy, rigid schedules, and so on.

When I used to work the winters with the migrants picking oranges, we had ZERO of that. They didn't know my name, didn't care, didn't notice or care if I didn't show up tomorrow, and I never answered an email or filled out a form. It was work hard and get cash paid daily, period.

Having had several years of this kind of experience, I have always found "conventional" types of jobs to be so ridiculous I've always sought to avoid them at almost any cost. And I've always suspected that my orange picking days had much more in common with 99% of the history of work than conventional modern jobs do.

A child kicks his legs rhythmically through excess, not absence, of life. Because children have abounding vitality, because they are in spirit fierce and free, therefore they want things repeated and unchanged. They always say, “Do it again”; and the grown-up person does it again until he is nearly dead. For grown-up people are not strong enough to exult in monotony.

But perhaps God is strong enough to exult in monotony. It is possible that God says every morning, “Do it again” to the sun; and every evening, “Do it again” to the moon. It may not be automatic necessity that makes all daisies alike; it may be that God makes every daisy separately, but has never got tired of making them. It may be that He has the eternal appetite of infancy; for we have sinned and grown old, and our Father is younger than we.

The most curious one I've received was apparently anti Republican with the alarming information that republicans are in favor of....

Profit.
I cannot wait for Wednesday for the barrage of political text messages to be over.

Ironically in this case, nothing does rhythm and repetition as reliably as the Catholic Church.

Which is one of the sources of its unique ability to holding things steady through time
A lack of flexibility or adventurousness is a hallmark symptom of distress, dysfunction, and even legitimate psychological problems.

When, for example, children will only eat certain foods (and will never try any others), or when people develop intensely ritualized ways of life (from which they can never deviate or else they crumble) -- such people have developed an "insecure attachment" to reality itself.

They need repetition and homogeneity as a kind of comfort; and whatever comfort they derive from it is a kind of surrogate for some essential thing they are lacking, or never received to begin with.

You see this in so many poorly-formed children and teenagers especially. And I often see it in myself when I am doing my worst; I always know things are improving for me when I try something new, take a risk, do something out of the ordinary, etc.

It's a small observation, but important nonetheless.

I take this responsibility very seriously.

My philosophy is that you need to have good people with their hands on the wheel. If we all just hide away then who will make the choices?
The future of #ArtificialIntelligence is not pre-determined. As a technology developed by human beings, its future depends on the choices we make. We therefore have the responsibility to guide, change and, when necessary, reject its applications. A reliable system that serves the human person is of greater value than one that is exceptionally powerful but whose consequences cannot be adequately foreseen or controlled.

Yes. There have been a mountain of improvements, and many more on the way.

I truly wish we had more pricing flexibility, but unlike traditional software, the realtime agent has real costs to run
@normonics OK, I tried Sage early on and it was great. But it looks like there have been mountains of improvement. And, my son still often asks if we can do the wizard app. Need to clear out some space again in my budget for this.
