With all the news of vaccines & immunity, did you know measles infections destroy immunity and cause “Immune Amnesia”, increasing risk of all other infections

Our research in ‘15 & ‘19 discovered this & the abbreviated story is written up nicely here:

Today, FDA kicked off its Rare Disease Framework Initiative with a public meeting, co-hosted by @reaganudall. Thanks to all who joined for your input, candor & vision. With only 5% of rare diseases having an approved treatment, the status quo isn't enough — we must do more.

FDA ActileD shared with the attendees that the “urgency of the need has not changed, but now we — the agency, drug developers, researchers, and patients — are ready to meet that need together.”

Interesting to see Dartmouth’s #2 ousted for use of AI in penning a @wapo OpEd

We are going to have to have some serious discussions about how to formalize a line between acceptable and not for an institution

The data shows that MOST peer reviewed publications from academics now make use of AI

Perhaps the extreme level of response (from being Provost to no longer employed) was bc of the irony that the WaPo article he wrote using AI is actually about the responsible use of AI on college campuses….
I don’t know.

But I do know that the use of AI in writing is not going away. Not by professors and certainly not by students as they grow into professionals.

Something to ponder anyway…

Help!!!! Any advice appreciated!!! We just lost our strong lead in the HHS TOPx voting and I want to get the word out about what we're trying to do and what a difference it makes to get objective measures! Any tips appreciated (also votes and comments)!!! invisibleillness.crowdicity.com/post/896951?so…

In 2024, I investigated why Biden Admin had slow-walked response to #H5N1 outbreak in dairy cows. The answer: @USDA let farmers not test cows, at dairy lobby's behest.

Strong 🧵on evolution of H5N1 risks: "This should have ended 2 years ago." 👇
There is something really concerning (and disappointing) going on in the US right now.
A dangerous and preventable situation.
Let me explain.

Very nice work by @PGTimmune and team

Order of infection/vaccination matters when considering future breadth T cell responses.
How does our history of influenza infections shape the ability of CD8+ T cells to recognize new viral variants? Our new paper in @CellReports examines these questions using influenza-specific CD8+ T cells! 🧵⬇️ (1/12)

MICROSCOPY.
Making the invisible visible since 1590.

(Yes, those little white balls are actually immune cells flowing through the tinniest blood vessels! Imaged painlessly, non-invasively through the skin)

Grateful to @NPR for the chance to talk about how stress and infections like COVID can stir dormant viruses in our bodies, and what that may mean for our immune system. Still much to learn, and I’m thankful to my team and colleagues for their work 🎧 npr.org/2026/10/23/nx-…

Did you know that in the incredible Invisible Illness TOPx @HHSGov Tech Sprint, our team is the only one with a core microscopy component? Please register to vote! invisibleillness.crowdicity.com/post/896951

Michael Mina on inclusion of serological assays as part of the toolbox for modern surveillance. @NatureConf. Advocates the use of synthetic biology to allow detection of antibodies to a broad range of antibodies tom the entire proteome of all pathogens science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Wow… The Babies are No Longer Protected Against Measles

Moms antibodies used to give 6-9 months of Ab protection to infants

Now, protection is gone by ~4 months
Neutralizing Ab titers = 0 by 6m

And… if we give MMR early to fill the gap it can drive a long-term problem

because a mAb has well controlled pharmacodynamics, a mAb to fill the gap could potentially provide a highly predictable schedule - after which a vaccine can be received - almost like setting a clock: protection —> vaccination

There is a lot we haven’t yet explored!
