Overview of our research activities at @Cardano_CF
Introducing the Cardano Research Exchange #1
The Cardano Research Exchange is a series of live, interactive sessions that brings research happening across the Cardano ecosystem into the spotlight.
The aim is to make ongoing research more visible, give researchers a platform to reate opportunities for the community to contribute feedback and help shape what gets explored next.
The series welcomes research initiatives from across the ecosystem, including other research teams. Researchers can share ongoing work, discuss their findings, and gather input from the community, while participants get a better understanding of the research taking place across Cardano and the opportunity to contribute their own perspectives.
In this first episode, led by @manv_sc and Juan Ignacio Beccuti Vázquez, we take a high-level look at the @Cardano_CF's research initiatives.
This session serves as part 1 of a 3-part series, with the following two sessions taking a closer look at research related to "The Effect of Parameter Changes on SPO and Delegator Incentives."
Topics covered in Episode #1:
00:01 - Introduction to the Cardano Research Exchange
03:57 - Core Research Focus Areas
05:54 - Overview of Research Streams & Publications
08:35 - Ongoing Research Initiatives
13:22 - Upcoming Sessions: Parameter Changes, Incentives & Monetary Policy

A large reserve doesn’t guarantee a secure network. New research shows why.
Manvir Schneider (CF) and Paolo Penna (@IOGroup) built a framework to determine how much reserve a PoS network needs to stay secure as token price and demand shift, presented at AFT 2026 last week.

To everyone afraid of the ECDSA/Hash Function apocalypse — there is even light at the end of that tunnel in terms of Zhandry's Quantum Money [and the stronger form, Quantum Fire]
Makes very different assumptions, physics gives you some much stronger security guarantees (even stronger than classical one-shot signatures, in that you go beyond no-cloning for polytime adversaries)

Tarun says there's a form of money more secure than any blockchain, because physics itself stops it from being copied.
"Quantum money is built around the idea that the secret key is a quantum state."
"If you try to clone one exactly, it violates fundamental physics."
"By it."
"It's a stronger property than a blockchain, which relies on hash functions not colliding."

Consensus view after this year's hacks: DeFi needs junior capital to absorb losses
But nobody says how much (+ more importantly) where it is needed
Can today's lending protocols handle that?
🚨New paper: @Morpho and @aave (surprisingly!) need more junior capital than optimal

The parameter committee has spent months/years debating on how to accurately gauge SPO sentiment about raising stakePoolTargetNum from 500->1000.
As part of this, myself and another member of the parameter committee meticulously drafted all the arguments for and arguments agaseparate documents so that voters could have a balanced view of both arguments. We linked these inside of a neutral-language Info Action body for SPOs to consider.
Because Info Actions have no ratification threshold and stakePoolTargetNum isn't a parameter that SPOs vote on through governance, the parameter committee collectively agreed to use a specific threshold of explicit YES > explicit NO for this Info Action. This is already above and beyond what the protocol and the Constitution require and we went out of our way to give SPOs a voice on this.
Unfortunately, a community member who is opposed to the parameter change hijacked our draft and the years of effort that went into it, changed the threshold to suit his desired outcome, and submitted it without consulting anybody.
Even if the we can reasonably disagree about what the threshold should be for this vote (remember it is not required at all), taking other people's work, twisting it, and submitting in a manner to suit your own narrative is extremely disappointing to see.
I'm very disheartened by this after having spent years of my own, uncompensated effort building to this point only to see a community member undermine it like this.
If you want to see the real draft that the parameter committee put together, you can read it here. Also the case for and case against are linked as well, so you can see both sides of the discussion fairly.
I can't speak on behalf of the others, but I will be interpreting the outcome of the vote based on the criteria that the parameter committee collectively agreed on, regardless of what this Info Action says.

Our paper “Reserve Depletion and Security Runway in Proof-of-Stake Systems,” joint work with @PaoloPenna8, has been accepted at AFT 2026.
The paper develops a mathematical framework for determining whether transaction fees can provide sufficient incentives for validator by sustain the target level of security—before a proof-of-stake system’s finite reward reserve is depleted.

Every successful marketplace has winners and losers
But some participants make it more of a dark forest than a chessboard
We find some direct evidence for this — and some simple math to make these marketplaces more robust to rogue inference providers! x.com/i/article/2088…

What matters long term is not short-term market sentiment, but whether an ecosystem continues to build meaningful infrastructure and attract real adoption.
Cardano today has:
Decentralized Governance operating at scale through CIP-1694 and on-chain voting
One of the strongest open-source communities in the industry, with contributors building across research, protocol development, tooling, and applications worldwide
Institutional Transparency anchored directly on-chain, where governance actions, treasury activity, and ecosystem operations are publicly verifiable
Growing DeFi initiatives including
Bifrost by Fluid Tokens
Pogun by IOG
Sundial Protocol
Charms
BTC Karma
Expanding RWA and digital identity infrastructure through projects like Veridian and tokenization initiatives across multiple regions
Global public/private sector collaborations spanning education, telecommunications, digital identity, and blockchain infrastructure
Examples of transparent on-chain activity already visible today include:
DRep registrations and governance actions
Treasury withdrawals and constitutional committee activity
Ecosystem and partner network activity
Native asset issuance and RWA directly on London Stock Exchange
20.000 farmers in India combining satellite data, identity, education and industry
Everything verifiable. Everything auditable. Built in public.
The work continues.
