I think it's very hard to pick a keynote presentation topic that's both broadly applicable and non-surface-level enough to be worth completely halting all poster sessions for

I occasionally wring my hands about how decades don't really have their own unique aesthetics any more but Claudeslop will absolutely be the graphic design tell that something was made in the mid-20s.

1. I can sympathize with struggling in another lang
2. However, I am not entitled to a speaker of my L2's attention as I struggle to say sophisticated stuff
3. Before LMs these presenters' papers wouldn't have been accepted
4. Another reason to not waste your time at orals

#EMNLP2026 Not going to name names, but there are oral presenters who clearly struggle with English and have friends ask them questions to fill in the Q&A time. Answers are clearly rehearsed.

On AI reviewing, authors broadly agree that all praise of their papers is high quality but the AI reviewer criticisms are bad. I'm sure they think that negative reviews are much better

How do you tell if authors fabricated their research results? Sometimes: they just tell you. Read, e.g., this caption carefully.

Radically pro-dedicated desk reject skim reviewers
Some thoughts on reviewing: spylab.ai/blog/reviewing/
First for @satml_conf where we trialed an early reject phase which cut submissions by ~40%.
Then more generally about how not everything deserves peer-review, and why we should reward writing things that people actually read.

I am happy to announce that I have an open, fully funded (through Secihti scholarship) PhD position in my new #NLProc team at the Ibero-American University (@IBERO_mx ) in Mexico City. If you are interested in working on NLP for indigenous languages, please send me a message.
