Someone exploited a known smart contract bug to swap 21 BAYC owned by ApeSTR with other apes, making the originals unrecognized and impossible to buy through listings on @token_works.
The attacker reportedly made ~$14K in net proceeds by claiming 21 strategy apes and dumping them.
The same bug affects the original NFTStrategy contracts:
PUDGYSTR
MEEBSTR
BIRBSTR
DICKSTR
SQUIGSTR
TOADSTR
GOBSTR
PunkSTR is unaffected. It was already known from the SQUIGSTR exploit a year ago, but apparently the incentive wasn’t there until now.
The apes aren’t necessarily lost forever. They can be swapped back into the protocol, restoring their listings if someone gets control of them.
Meanwhile, $APESTR is retracing hard, as the strategy has no recognized apes left to drive its buy-and-burn flywheel.
