Reports of several anti-ship cruise missile launches from Kuhestak, southern Iran, targeting commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Notably, the launches took place near residential areas, as the explosions were heard very loudly.

Latest in energy:

1. Iran denied reports that it offered to reopen Hormuz in exchange for lifting the US blockade -- Tasnim cited an informed source calling the reported proposal false, making a near-term diplomatic off-ramp look less likely.

2. An oil spill is closing beaches across the northern UAE -- authorities in Umm Al Quwain, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah have imposed closures as cleanup efforts continue.

3. QatarEnergy’s US #LNG diversification push is reportedly getting bigger -- Reuters says the company is in talks with Woodside to buy up to 3 mtpa from the Louisiana LNG project, after signing a 4 mtpa long-term deal with Cheniere this week.

4. #Iran is sending senior energy officials to Moscow ahead of the GECF summit -- Iran’s deputy oil minister for international affairs and trade is attending preparatory meetings, while President Pezeshkian is expected in Moscow on Oct. 27.

5. Saudi Arabia’s national shipping company Bahri ordered three new VLCCs -- the roughly $451m deal covers three 320,000-DWT crude carriers for delivery in 2029-30, adding to Saudi Arabia’s long-term shipping capacity.

6. Indonesia is cutting gas exports to Singapore -- about 31 mmcf/d is being redirected to domestic power supply. The reduction is small relative to Singapore’s total demand, but it is another example of producers prioritizing domestic energy security.

🇷🇺 🇺🇲 SCOOP: A company called Polar LNG presents itself as the "America's Arctic Advantage" project, flag and eagle on its homepage, pitching a plan to buy Russian technology and ship Alaskan gas to Asia. The NYT reports the company's start-up funding, routed through a UAE shell, Novatek, the sanctioned Russian energy giant that was also supposed to supply the equipment. The CEO who ran Polar LNG until September, Joel Riddle, says he was misled about where the money came from.

The mechanism matters as much as the deception. Novatek wasn't just quietly bankrolling an American company, per texts Riddle shared with the Times, its deputy chairman discussed wiring up to $15 million directly to Polar LNG's parent, Tech Wave, with the first $5 million expected within days of an August meeting in Abu Dhabi. Two of Tech Wave's own executives previously worked at Novatek running LNG projects.

Novatek itself confirmed to the Times it's moving to take a "minority shareholder" position in the project, meaning the same sanctioned Russian company would supply the technology, finance the venture, and own a stake in American gas production simultaneously.

This isn't happening in a policy vacuum. Putin personally discussed Alaska LNG with Witkoff and Kushner last month, one thread in a broader set of energy talks that includes the Lukoil sale we covered days ago, also involving Gulf investors with ties to Witkoff and Kushner's business circles. Recently passed sanctions legislation, the Graham Act, specifically names Novatek and its Arctic LNG 2 project. Trump waived the law's Russia provisions last week, framed as necessary to keep peace talks alive. Whether or not that waiver was built with Polar LNG specifically in mind, it removes the exact legal obstacle this deal would otherwise face.

Three senior Polar LNG executives have now resigned within weeks of each other, after raising sanctions concerns with the Energy Department. The company's response was to call Riddle a "disgruntled former employee" and claim he was terminated for cause, even though internal documents show he resigned six days before any termination letter arrived. A Baker Botts legal memo attached to his resignation already flagged that Treasury's own sanctions enforcement unit had raised concerns about Polar LNG's Novatek ties before any of this became public.

Geoffrey Pyatt, a former Biden State Department energy official, put the stakes plainly: bringing Novatek into Arctic Alaska is bad on environmental, economic and geopolitical grounds, and "feeds the belief that Putin can get an out-of-jail-free card." Ilya Zaslavskiy goes further, calling any Novatek technology transfer a Kremlin attempt to use US energy policy to undermine US policy toward Ukraine.

The Times found no evidence Witkoff or Kushner knew about the Novatek financing specifically, only that Alaska LNG came up in broad terms during their talks with Putin.

What the reporting does establish is that a Russian sanctioned company spent months quietly building financial control over an American energy project marketed as a patriotic win, while the administration simultaneously removed the sanctions tool that would have stopped it.

Often DUQM port is filtered out from SAT images - likely because of the USN presence around in Omani waters closeby in the early months of the conflict. Two vessel can be observed loading up, one being the TORM KIRSTEN, the other is AIS dark. It's an unusually large congregation xplains why the last week we traced higher than usual amounts of flow from it, sits conveniently outside the Hormuz and the GoO and makes for an ideal port to pick up crude and products from.

Earlier we had traced ADNOC vessels to be discharging there to storage at the terminal. #OOTT

About 3 hours ago, an explosion was reported in Bandar Lengeh, southern Iran, following the launch of an anti-ship missile toward the Strait of Hormuz.

However, according to unconfirmed sources, the launcher used in the attack was targeted by CENTCOM forces.

Two days ago, ted regarding a U.S. military strike on an Iranian missile launcher, however, no confirmation has been provided by either Iranian media or CENTCOM.

If these reports are true, it would signify a shift in strategy by U.S. officials, who may have authorized isolated airstrikes to slightly weaken the IRGC ahead of a larger-scale offensive against Iran.

Finally, official crude data we agree on. The numbers perfectly align with our months of tracking, pinning current flows for Hormuz + Gulf of Oman + Red Sea at ~18 mb/d. Unsurprising to see it exposes the BS of 24 mb/d from Kpler and CENTCOM’s 1.5 billion barrel claims.

But the real question is: at what cost? Middle East barrels went from $58 pre-war to doubling at $117 now -- plus maybe a trillion in taxpayer funds and counting. If this is the price tag to choke Iranian crude to zero, it completely now boils down to who blinks first or who weather it out longer. The next two weeks should tell us exactly how this shapes up.

Despite Iran’s efforts to disrupt energy shipments, oil exports from the Persian Gulf are roaring back and have surpassed pre-conflict levels.

The message is clear: Iran’s threats have failed to stop the flow of energy to global markets.
