We had a visit from Joseph Swan the other day - well, a LEGO version made by Stephen Thomas: @spot_the_brick

What a lovely surprise, especially as it's our bicentenary year!

Despite initial butterflies, I had such an enjoyable time at @litandphil yesterday, reading from my novel #TheRewildingofMollyMcFlynn, talking about my writing process and themes in the book. We covered witch trials, othering, daring to be different and dieting that doesn't work

We still have places left for a FREE event this evening, "Writing Middle-Eastern Lives":

litandphil.org.uk/event/writing-…

Scholars and historians Sonja Mejcher-Atassi, Marilyn Booth and Peter Hill discuss their recent books which investigate the modern history of the Middle East.
A colour composite of the covers of the three books to be discussed at the event: Sonja Mejcher-Atassi’s "An Impossible Friendship" tells the story of a remarkable group of Muslim, Jewish and Christian friends in Jerusalem, before and after the creation of Israel in 1948. Marilyn Booth’s "The Career and Communities of Zaynab Fawwaz" examines the literary career of a pioneering Arab feminist and debates around gender in 1890s Egypt. Peter Hill’s "Prophet of Reason" uses the life of Syrian polymath Mikha’il Mishaqa to investigate the changing role of religion and science in the nineteenth-century Middle East.
