I’m actually kind of shocked that Ubuntu is sooo behind …. haven’t read blog post but not good look given severity of these recent CVE(s) > 9+
Ubuntu is getting roasted over a kernel bug it still hasn't patched.
CVE-2026-98432 is a use-after-free in the Linux kernel's IPv4 TCP handshake code. It's been there since 2016, it can be triggered remotely, and it's rated CVSS 9.8. Debian shipped a fix on October 16. Arch, ve fixes too.
Ubuntu's security tracker still lists every supported release, 24.04 and 26.04 LTS included, as "Vulnerable", with fixes marked "work in progress". Ubuntu also rates it "High" rather than Critical, and Critical is what normally triggers an out-of-cycle update.
A blog post called "WTF Ubuntu?" by chalmovsky hit the top of Hacker News today. It says: "Ubuntu hasn't shipped the patch nine days after it was rated 9.8 and six days after a working root exploit." The author also took their Ubuntu servers offline.
HN commenters point out that fixed kernels are already sitting in Ubuntu's -proposed repositories. Others are swapping migration notes for Debian, AlmaLinux and Rocky. So far there's no public statement from Canonical.

With AI accelerating vulnerability discovering (CVSS >9+) as the new norm, patching before exploit is race against time! ⏰
I wonder if this might drive new wave of traditional app modernization, not for 12 Factor but the ability for Orgs to ship fixes almost instantly 🤔

📢 JFYI - CVE-2026-111497 (Brotli RCE) only applies to the SDDC Manager component in #VCF and to quickly address issue, there are manual interim workarounds for now

Great insights from Karl on common #VCF configurations that can prevent you from upgrading, ensure you take care of these and get insights by running the VCF readiness/upgrade checker to help!
@lamw Sure things to check:
- the BOM versions of all components like SDDC Manager, NSX, etc.
- cluster homogeneity, because of transition from baselines to vLCM image
- trust the health checks and fix the issues first
And thats just three of many more things I’m fighting with…

Great to hear in-product #VCF pre-checks is at least catching!
Any common patterns you’d like to share with broader community on things to check in general?
I do like that we have both upgrade and general pre-checks users can run adhoc!

Working on a huge #VCF upgrade at a customer. Multiple workload domains. I'm stumbling from one issue and error to the next. The infrastructure has been neglected over the years. It's a good thing the upgrade pre-checks are so thorough. #vExper @vmwarevcf

👇Very good watch on NUMA enhancements in #VCF91 to address high core count/chiplets for Intel/AMD CPUs. Best part, no operational/config changes, upgrade to 9.1 to get 🚀 scheduler!

Since this was recently asked ... In addition to Intel Haswell/Broadwell processors no longer being supported, you also can NOT use them with #VCF91 NVMe Tiering, you will need at least Skylake or newer processor
