Do you guys remember that one glorious week when the auto translate feature brought the Japanese posts flooding onto the timeline and we learned that they are actually like **the best** friends we never knew we had?

They were just ripping bbq, monster trucks, kfc, honky tonks, dliest people of all time

And totally reciprocated too like immediately the American tpot started going nuts for samurai and anime and sushi and it was just this big cultural dab up and we learned that two atomic bombs couldn’t keep us from loving each other and all those countries we were allied with in ww2 were totally lame and ungrateful in comparison

Probably my overall favorite week on this app
I asked 30 Japanese 12-year-olds one question.

"What do you think of when you hear 'America'?"

(My nephew's teacher let me visit his class. I was not prepared.)

"Hamburgers the size of my head."

"Everything is big. Even the milk."

"Cowboys." Then a boy asked me, "Do cowboys still exist?"
I said yes.
The whole class cheered.

"They went to the moon."
I told them only Americans have ever walked on it.
The room went completely silent. Respect.

"The best baseball in the world. Even Ohtani had to go there."

"Superheroes. They all live in New York."

Then a quiet girl in the back raised her hand.

"My grandma says when the tsunami came, American soldiers came to help her town. She still has a photo with them on her fridge."

Nobody said anything for a while.

Then the teacher asked, "Who wants to go to America someday?"

Every hand went up.

Including the teacher's.

This is the way.
A proposed supersite of AP1000s has just been announced in Appalachia.

The Nuclear Company just revealed plans to build up to six Westinghouse AP1000s on a single site in Lewis County, Kentucky.

If all six reactors get built, it would be the largest nuclear site ever developed in the U.S.

If the reactors are built in pairs, this would be the closest America has come to copying China’s recipe for nuclear success.

My team and I have spent the past year studying China’s nuclear program through Chinese primary sources, and there’s a clear pattern to their builds:
- 6 reactors planned per site built two at a time;
- Using a standard design they repeat over and over;
- With the same crews moving from one pair to the next.

Although a frozen reactor design is nice, nothing gets you more standardization than building on the same spot with the same team.

The site appears to sit along a major 765 kV transmission line in the Ohio River corridor (not a coincidence, I'm sure). But a full 6.6 GW will almost certainly need grid upgrades including additional outbound transmission.

This is a proposed project, not a done deal. And we're far enough out from Vogtle that building these reactors will require significant workforce training, standing up of supply chains, and coordination across many parties.

But oh boy, would be massive if The Nuclear Company pulls this off.

Replying to @OmotolaniWorld
@OmotolaniWorldd reevaluate how closely your conception of rights resembles slavery.

Imagine being the person forced to produce the food, build the shelter, supply the water, and provide the healthcare because someone else declared themselves entitled to your labor.

You'd quickly discover how few rights you're left with.

It's easy to declare that everyone is owed something when you're volunteering someone else to provide it.

“Women talk a lot about how scared of male violence they are, but from their behavior it's clear they never actually consider it a possibility”

When I was eighteen I was out for the night with my bf and some friends, we were barhopping in Kings Cross. I was tipsy & occasionally lippy & obnoxious towards strangers (who were asking for it!).

My bf quietly & discreetly at one point during the night said “babe, I love you, but fuck sometimes I worry that you’re writing cheques I won’t be able to cash, if it comes to and I’m on my own”. I was like “wtf are you talking about?”

He literally had to explain to me that if I was being a fuckwit starting trouble, he’d obviously have to defend me if anything went down, and if I’m being a massive smart ass and it’s just like him & me & my best girlfriend, then he’s going to be in a fight on his own. All because I was being an antagonistic smart ass to some strangers who couldn’t take a joke.

The idea that I needed to be able to back up my words with violence if it came to it, was something that had literally never occurred to me. Ever.

It was a total revelation. Suddenly i realised talk wasn’t “cheap” in this context, it was expensive. The idea that I could effectively get him beaten up, or put him in real danger, by being a precocious little shit arguing with idiots because I could, was horrifying.

From then on I was extremely reluctant to ever argue with strangers or act like a smart ass unnecessarily, because I was suddenly keenly aware that the guys we were with could potentially be expected to pay with their lives for any poorly received flippant comments we made.

It really was totally novel to me. This isn’t how women see the world, at all.
Ideally, he wouldn't have reacted like this

But any guy is aware that when you shove another man, getting lightly swatted (or more) is 100% on the table, so they won't do it unless they're being intentionally aggressive

Women talk a lot about how scared of male violence they are, but from their behavior it's clear they never actually consider it a possibility

We don't live in the 60s. You're shoving a steroid user on an athletic scholarship in the middle of a football game. You have to understand that this inherently comes with a degree of danger

Absolutely wild how these mistakes keep happening in college football.
Big 12 statement:

"Following the Big 12’s review of the final play of Saturday’s Notre Dame-BYU game, it was determined that time remained on the clock when the ball hit the ground and the play was incorrectly cleared by the replay officiating crew. The Conference will conduct a complete review of its end-of-game officiating process in advance of next week's games."

I don’t see the problem with this.

Division 3 NCAA has had 32 team brackets for decades, and just moved to 40.
Why are people so upset about this…? It makes more meaningful games and a bad game or two doesn’t end your season. I’m all for it

You care about what's in your food, but what about your coffee?

From the beans you buy to the water you brew with, the little details matter. Choose coffee tested for mold toxins, use filtered water, avoid plastic in your brew path, and skip the sugary syrups.

A better cup of coffee starts with better choices. How many of these are already part of your coffee routine?
