For those who refuse to read the articles about this case. She had a babysitter coming in the mornings to check in, make lunches, get them off to school, and prep dinner for them. All the 14 year old had to do was help them get inside after school. Microwave dinner. Get kids in bed and text mom updates. This was a work trip and they threatened to fire her if she did not go. The father has abuse charges and the police handed him their kids on top of arresting her.
A 50-year-old woman was arrested after getting off a plane after authorities said she left her four children home alone for four days while she traveled to Las Vegas for work: bit.ly/3UlVZeA

Years ago @MarkLevineNYC held hearings on NYC's toilet apocalypse: Insane costs, long timelines, few toilets
Then @hknightsf made national news on SF's "Million Dollar Toilet" scandal
Now NYC's toilets are hitting $7M. How do we fix subway procurement if we can't do toilets?

I FOILed for the number of closed public bathrooms in city parks. The data showed some have been shuttered so long the city couldn’t remember when they were last open. The total? 68. Some have no plans for repairs. The average cost? $5 to $7 million.

This trailer is sick because the product is sick. We'll have more details to share soon.
Today, we're announcing Nitro: a formally verified agentic system for compiling your most complex SQL workloads into Rust.
Our design partners are running millions of dollars of critical workloads through this and seeing 10x faster, 3x cheaper ETL. Reach out to try it.

For anyone using @ThinkstCanary; is it still low noise in the age of coding agents? I feel like Agents are more likely to pull on random things they see, e.g. if you put a fake AWS key in ~/.aws/ there's a decent chance Claude will try to use it.

Perhaps something to consider if you work at OpenAI / Anthropic:
If your policies have produced an outcome like 'if a researcher wants to do software verification research then they have use a Chinese model', then perhaps your approach to 'safety' is net negative.

Dario Amodei was so worried about Y2K that his high school teacher still remembers it decades later.
He’s been a doomer for much longer than I thought!

Long before they were soon-to-be billionaires, Dario and Daniela Amodei were students at San Francisco’s most elite public high school. sfchronicle.com/tech/article/d…

I don't know anything about bio, but they were wrong about cyber! Team Defense found the latest bugs and got them fixed. AI made it easier to patch everything too, including custom patches for slow OSS releases!
Yes. The people who minimize AI bio risk ("Ackshually, viruses are really hard", "Ackshually, AI doesn't have the data to make bioweapons", etc.) are TRYING TO GET YOU AND ALL OF YOUR DESCENDANTS KILLED

@OpenAI @AnthropicAI We've created a magic box that improves software security more than decades of human/industry effort and literally trillions of dollars of spend. This is like Nobel Prize-level worthy of celebration, not condemnation.

Astra just found a bug in Anthropic's formal verification example, their "specification" doesn't actually check output bytes match input bytes. The irony is thick.

Technically I said Open Source Business is dead, but close enough :)
In a world where self hosting most software is very easy, selling a hosted version is real rough.

"Open source is dead and I killed it" - our CTO @kuza55 wrote up how he saved us $100k by self-hosting Grafana. With, basically, two days of work.
OSS businesses have some soul-searching to do in the age of AI.

Woooooowww. This is the confirmation we’ve been waiting for!
Moderna and Merck’s personalized mRNA cancer vaccine reduced the risk of melanoma recurrence or death by 42% when added to Keytruda after surgery, compared with Keytruda alone!
And yes, it uses the same mRNA OVID vaccines!

In January 2025 my mom’s lung cancer spread to her brain. The drug with the best chance of helping her was approved in China but not here.
A doctor told me, almost as an aside, that if she were Chinese she could buy it at a pharmacy.
So I flew to Shanghai and came home with 26 boxes in my luggage. That was 19 months ago. My mom is still here, still working, and in her words has had an amazing three years.
The drug was approved in China in 2023. The FDA approved it in July 2025. It still is not for sale here. I know of at least 30 Americans who have made the same trip.
I have been scared to tell this story because I worried it could cost my mom access to the medicine keeping her alive. But the problem matters more than my silence. These drugs need to be developed and available here, and that means FDA reform.
Art Allen at KFF Health News told our story this week. It also ran in The Washington Post.

now that the mathematicians don’t have anything to do I think they should start an “ethics of matrix multiplication” class so we can all understand how to comply with anthropic’s terms of service

this is just wrong: these vulns were found by defenders using Daybreak rather than attackers. It's just evidence Glasswing didn't go far enough, possibly due to capacity constraints. It's also very likely that March Mythos was not as good as Sol/Astra of September
It's striking that this vulnerability was found by Sol and Argon rather than being found and fixed in the wake of Mythos 6mo ago. Seems like a heavy strike against the "defense will run ahead of offense" theory, especially give that domains like bio are much harsher than cyber.
