excited to take a very natural next step
Excited to announce that @krrishd is joining @naturalpay's engineering team today from @tryramp.
At Ramp, Krish led payments and helped build the infrastructure behind bill pay, reimbursements, stablecoins, treasury, capital markets, and more.
I met him randomly at a basketball game when Natural was 100 days old. He told me that he’d read the agentic payments memo that I wrote, and I immediately clocked him as an energetic fit for the team we were building.
Right after that conversation, a mutual pulled me aside and said, “there are a few engineers that really matter at Ramp, and Krish is one of them.” So naturally, I spent the next four months convincing him to make the jump.
Krish is one of the few people I’ve met who deeply understands money movement, can move up and down the technical stack with ease, and is so broadly interesting that you can talk with him for hours before realizing just how deep his technical knowledge really goes.
During our work trial debrief walk (a ritual), one line really stuck with me: “there’s no fintech company going after anything nearly as ambitious as Natural. Either I’m joining you or starting my own thing, but the only thing I’d want to start is in agentic payments, and I think you’re doing it right.”
I’m very glad that we now get to say “we” instead of “you,” and even more glad to have him on the team.
If you want to join Krish, we’re still doubling the team. Email me: k@natural.co

one thing i have been thinking a lot about is the moat of a “bank” and what an effective neobank looks like. no bank today runs the work and running the work requires building around a customer archetype. why aren’t more banks running the work behind an industry with all the new capabilities we have around AI?
What Jack meant by there is no moat is that many of the future companies will eventually look very similar even though they all started in completely different sectors and you’re already starting to see bits of this now
Square e.g Payments -> Lending & Payroll -> Business Operations -> Applied AI Lab
Ramp e.g Corporate Cards -> Expense Management -> Back Office Operations -> Applied AI Lab
Stripe e.g Payments -> Financial Infrastructure -> Applied AI Lab
Shopify e.g Online Storefronts -> Payments & Fulfillment -> Merchant Operations -> Applied AI Lab
What’s interesting is that all these companies started from completely different entry points, but over time they’re starting to look more and more similar and eventually will compete with each other in some form
I think ai is going to accelerate this, making it much easier for companies to expand into markets that historically would’ve taken years to enter
My take is that companies are going to look more like pods of interconnected businesses vs operating in one singular sector and I believe a lot of sectors will start to merge
e.g there won’t be a fintech sector, it’ll be a merge of finance, commerce, software and intelligence all bundled together. The same could happen with compute, energy, and finance, or media, commerce, and advertising etc
And as these sectors merge, companies that never competed with each other will start competing for the same customers
Think companies that are extremely ai forward are thinking about how many sectors they can bring together under one company vs the ones that have been skeptical or too slow to move

J.P. Morgan Chase, Bank of America, Citi, and other major U.S. banks are beginning to block AI agents. I think that is going to be one of the most consequential decisions they make for their balance sheets and ability to endure.
I wrote about why agents will fundamentally reshape banking, how money moves, and which institutions win over the next decade.

When you want to be ambitious both at work and in creative worlds, you could find a way to integrate them or create feedback loops between them.
If we view our jobs and the hours we spend most of our waking lives as complete diversions from a rich intellectual or creative life, illing or meaningful to make creative work.
A writing practice "co-evolves with how you enter the world" where you write to discover, or write to share what you've learned.
When you free yourself from what @michael_nielsen (in his piece 'developing creative identity') calls the “tyranny of ‘writing as a primary identity,” you can be free to choose for yourself what kind of writing you want to do in service of your other, multiple identities: be it a scientist, or researcher, investor, designer, founder.
Paradoxically, the non-writing activities stemming from these identities can actually be wildly generative source material for the writing as well.

notes on being ambitious in both work and creative endeavors:
- create accountability writing/creative partners with regular cadence (weekly)
- introduce variety through scoped projects e.g., pitching, personal blog, side quests
- rigor and discipline applies to creative work t > time management
