I did say we'd be releasing our models periodically...introducing Gemini 4 Carbon, our next frontier model.

Following Argon's release just two weeks ago, Carbon shows the pace at which we’re pushing the frontier, it ranks #1 on the recently updated v5.0 of @ArtificialAnlys 9. It also leads across key cybersecurity evaluations scoring 88.2% on SEC-bench Pro for finding vulnerabilities, 54.8% on ExploitGym for exploitation, and 71.0% on CWE-bench for patching.

We’re seeing significant improvements in long-horizon tasks even compared to Argon, and we’ve strengthened frontier safeguards.

As we did with Argon, we’re going to roll it out gradually + responsibly. Some trusted cyber defenders will get access starting this week. We'll be expanding it to more partners through our Fairwind Program, ahead of wider availability soon, so hang tight!

Incredible engineering!

If you’re the type of person who is curious and gets dopamine hits from learning things, talking to an AI can become super addictive.

This is the type of pleasure no human can give you. No human knows so many things and no human will have the patience to explain so many things, dive deeper on topics you want etc. But AI is so patient.

It’s a whole new level to 3 am internet deep dives into obscure topics, like drinking from a fire hose.

General AI capability predicts robot capability, except for Gemini models, which are strong robotics outliers.

Removing Gemini raises the correlation coefficient from 0.20 to 0.96. 🧵

Gemini models score higher on robotics than GPT and Claude models, given the same general AI capability.
Does Epoch’s Capabilities Index (E-CI) track robotics?

With @robocurve, I piloted a small R-CI to check this. Using tasks like “Stack Bowls”, “Cap Pen”... with robot arms.

Relative to ECI, Gemini models outperform RCI—before Astra!

But one eval tracks RCI better… 🧵/3

Gemini 4 Argon taught a robot to play cornhole just by watching a video.

It mapped the physics, coded its own simulation, and taught @Apptronik's Apollo humanoid to sink 7 throws in a row.

In robotics, Gemini 4 Argon is speeding up real-world physical learning.

We let Argon watch a video of a human playing cornhole. It mapped the environment, calculated whole-body joint movements, and autonomously built the simulation code to practice.

When transferred to noid, the robot sank seven straight shots in a real-world trial.

Excited to see Gemini 4 Argon finally released! Over the past few weeks, my team collaborated with another to advance Gemini’s capabilities in game dev. Game dev pushes beyond symbolic intelligence to eval rich spatio-temporal reasoning, a crucial step toward physical AGI.
Gemini 4 Argon is amazing for knowledge work and coding - and it’s super fun to build with! We asked it to create this wizard chess game and it's so cool to see Argon's physics understanding & 3D modelling capabilities, makes me nostalgic for Battlechess on the Amiga - fun times!

Gemini 4 Argon is now generally available. It is one of the most beloved models at Google.

Interestingly, it can also control a full body humanoid with dexterous hands. Improved in real2sim2real in just a few hours and was able to do a skill we had no data on. I was personally very mind blown to see this in the lab. youtube.com/watch?v=9PICEm…
Gemini 4 Argon is here.

It’s available globally today for developers and enterprises in the paid tier of the Gemini API and the Gemini platform, for Ultra subscribers in Google Antigravity, and Ultra and Pro subscribers in the Gemini app and Search.

Hope you all enjoy it!

Fun fact about (some) AI researchers / academics: the more senior you get, the more convinced you become that every new AI idea is something you already invented 20 years ago. Or, even better: wait until something actually works and then try convincing everyone that this is exactly what you’ve been saying all along.

I was at a conference where a speaker was presenting their research. One academic stood up and said: what you’re doing is actually something I did a few years ago. The speaker was very polite and said thank you for pointing this out.

Then a second researcher stood up and said, well I already did it this 10 years ago, you should cite my work. Then a third person said, I already did all of this about 20 years ago.

It was the funniest thing ever.
