let’s talk about sync
ever since watching theo’s videos about t3 chat local sync, I wanted it for smry.ai
but as I worked on it, I realized it’s not a good-to-have, it’s a must-have for a reading assistant, as your reading history needs to load instantly.
also users want to own their data, which they do if it’s cached on their own browser
i evaluated every provider: zero/electric/etc, even built my own shitty one!
but nothing was as good as powersync, which is super cheap, scales like crazy, has a drizzle integration, and has a team with actual support (also everyone else in the space seems to die/get bought)
powersync was the best solution for sync, but really the team was the best part
i’m able to work much faster now that I’m not worried about hand-rolled sync breaking with every change, and with all code written by agents it’s good to have a tool that has the things they need to succeed

Michael's search for a good sync solution has ended.
smry.ai is now running on @powersync_

If your company needs software dev help, I’d love to talk to you! I have some amazing experienced US-based devs on the bench who are very good at using agents and have a high quality bar.
We are best at mobile and web and desktop apps, but can do much more than that.
Average experience level is 15 years. You’ll love working with them. Great people, excellent devs.
Appreciate retweets and any referrals!

Weirdly glad now I did that third year CS course in Z Notation, might come in handy after all!
New on our Frontier Red Team blog: using Claude to formally verify software at large scale.
Formal verification can prove that code is free of certain bugs, but historically it has only been feasible for small codebases (or required a lot of expert time).
With AI models, however, this is beginning to change. In collaboration with @theoremlabs, we used Claude to prove security properties in over one hundred real-world open-source libraries over the span of a few weeks.

it's kind of funny that it's national cybersecurity awareness month but wikipedia is down so I can't share information about what it is about

We've released 1.27.1 of the PowerSync Service on Docker Hub. It contains mitigations for the eMudhra Intermediate CA Compromise.
The compromise could affect JWKS fetching and TLS connections for source databases. It is recommended to upgrade now.

In the USA many services require direct deposit details - routing number and account number. These two numbers alone are sufficient to initiate unauthorized ACH debits (withdraw money) from your account. I’m talking schools, gyms, etc.
Most of these services have websites. Many of these websites will be built in PHP/WordPress.
One good mitigation is to have a second bank account that you consider insecure. Paycheck goes into primary account, then you transfer cash into this second account, and give all the services the second account details.

I guess I'll be spending a lot of time just patching and updating shit between now and the singularity.

Delete the internal debugging tool you created for PowerSync and use the official one
PowerSync DevTools have shipped - inspect your app's live database
Our team couldn't resist memeing a video about this one 😆

Once the ideals of open source and freedom grab you, it gets quite hard to see the world in any other way.
There have been many acquisitions in the database space recently, but one that gives me hope is Supabase's acquisition of @tursodatabase, where it's clear that both are still committed to open source.
